Season of the Ukulele 683
I invite you to bring videos of songs from Laurel Canyon. Laurel Canyon is an area in Los Angeles, CA, which is famous for having been the neighborhood of an amazing number of musical artists, particularly during the period 1965-1979.
So bring me your ukulele interpretation of any song by an artist associated with Laurel Canyon, or any song with “canyon” or “laurel” in the title or lyrics, or any song that you feel relates to the Laurel Canyon experience in any way you wish to interpret it. For the songwriters, post songs that name drop any of the LC artists, or if title or lyrics contain the word “canyon” or “laurel”; or any song that you feel relates to the Laurel Canyon experience in any way you wish to interpret it.
Please no more than three submissions, one of which may be a re-posting of a video you’ve produced for an earlier season. Please stick to the theme, but just remember I’m a big fan of the Thornton Rule, so if you can make any kind of poignant or trivial connection for your song to Laurel Canyon… go for it. (For example, in 1969 the Rolling Stones rented Peter Tork’s LC home to rehearse for their 1969 tour of the States… thus any song on Let It Bleed would be valid). Please also be supportive by listening to and and commenting on other participants’ videos.
Here’s a partial list of musicians associated with Laurel Canyon, feel free to find others: Hoyt Axton, the Beach Boys, Bread, Jackson Browne, Buffalo Springfield, the Byrds, Canned Heat, Judy Collins, Alice Cooper, CSNY, Ned Doheny, the Doors, the Eagles (be careful!), Fleetwood Mac, Heart, Jimi Hendrix, Carole King, Love, John Mayall, the Mamas and the Papas, Joni Mitchell, Scott Mackenzie, the Monkees, Harry Nilsson, Van Dyke Parks, Gram Parsons, Poco, Bonnie Raitt, Linda Ronstadt, Leon Russell, Judee Sill, Carly Simon, JD Souther, Spirit, the Turtles, Frank Zappa (note: music from any era of these artists output is good, also from any solo artist from the groups listed)

This July 25, as part of Woodstock Ukulele Studio’s Summer Music Series, UkeFoote will be performing a live outdoor concert of songs from Laurel Canyon. The show will be zoomcast as well. The songlist isn’t finalized yet, so I will be looking for inspiration from your posts.
