OH no, I did it again!
A couple of months ago, I bought a solid ebony concert that has a cut away and an eased arm rest of red paduke. It was too beautiful to pass up. Today I found a Tenor and a Baritone of the same style, both with slotted head stock, a pin bridge and, built-in tuner and amp connection. When I told my wife about them, she said, "You've got the money, why don't you buy them?" After 52 years of marriage, she knows me too well.
I thought about it and thought about it. But decided that I'd go up to the Strum Shop and get some new strings and get strap buttons on my Ohana cedar and rosewood tenor. While I was waiting for the buttons to be put on I checked the wall of ukes and saw a Kamaka soprano so, I picked it off the wall and strummed a few chords on it and checked the price tag, $1,295! WOW.
Now I had popped the A string on my new Bacote tenor so, I changed the string and got it in tune and stretched the string, popping the pin out and lost it in the room somewhere. I'm not sure, that slotted heads and pin bridges are all that great, as they make changing strings a real chore. Fortunately, Caramel had provided four extra pins in the accessory kit.
Waiting for the string to settle I got back on Amazon and looked at the Ebony Tenor and Baritone again annd thought, "I could save a lot by buying both Caramels and not the Kamaka." So I ordered both and saved over $800!
Before my surgery and all that, I had a complete collection of Caramel Zebra wood Ukes from Guitalele, Baritone, Tenor, Concert, Soprano, to Supranino, but broke it up giving them to my Nephews. So now I'm going to have a lesser collection of Ebony ukuleles and that should do me for a long long time.
