TARIFS AND WHAT EFFECT THEY'LL HAVE ON THE PRICE OF UKES

LimousinLil

Apparently, this is the burning question of the hour over on the old Forum … I mean, for goodness sake; heaven forbid that we should become "political"!!! (P.S. I was obviously spelling "tariffs" the French way!)

Lil, I got on Amazon today and was amazed by the prices I saw, Chinese Ukes were double what they were a few days ago!

I freaked out, as I had been trying to decide about buying an Ebony uke. Now I was using a Canadian VPN site and thought that might be a problem, so I switched back to an American VPN address and pow the prices were back to normal.

But it scared me silly this morning.

JackLuis Hi, Jack … and great to see you back here! I hope you get that uke at a reasonable price. (I made that comment because it struck me as being completely divorced from reality if your - not meaning yours, Jack - first thought when your Country's economy - along with everything else - is tanking; is concern over how the tariffs are going to affect the price of ukuleles.)

It’s nice to be back in touch with the SOTU. I did get a good price on Two Ebony Ukes yesterday. So far the terroriffsts have not effected the prices yet, and it seems that Dear Leader is waffling, AGAIN.

I'm actually more concerned with what the tariffs will do for the price of Mexican beer!

Got on Amazon to see if any new Ukuleles showed up, and the price of Caramels has doubled! Last month, my Ebony Baritone cost me ~$200, today the Hi class Bari was $330! Five or seven years ago, my Big Zebra Bari cost $99.$

The bottom's fallen out of the used ukulele market at the same time.

The price of a no-name Chinese uke is now the same as a much, much better used one. I have a friend who is trying to sell me a luthier-built mahogany soprano for £120. It is really, really good, far better than an Aliexpress one.
