Season 692 : The Key to the Bridge is Lost

redpaul1

Did you miss me, yeah, while I was away?

johnpoole

bobjking haha..I knew it was an honest mistake and it would have been churlish to bust your chops after you put in so much work and produced a ripper song. It will stay. You are not the only one who misread the rule🙂 Will listen to the new one now.

AlanDP

A song first recorded by Ruth Etting in 1927, then also by Doris Day much later. Has a key change and a bridge. I also did some commentary on it.

Despite the fact that pretty much every Eurovision song ever, has a key change, I'm actually going with option 4 - this lovely Nick Drake song, "Day is Done", features the word "lost" in the lyrics, and it features in Danish TV series "Families Like Ours", recently shown on bbc4 here in the UK.

This is a Katie Melua song called "The Flood". It has a long bridge. But still it goes verse, chorus, verse, chorus, BRRRRIIIIDDDGGGEEE, chorus.

London Bridge is nursery rhyme that has inspired me before. The previous time I played the tune I found on Wikipedia:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/London_Bridge_Is_Falling_Down

This time I thought I'd bring the Playford tune from his 1710 edition of The Dancing Master.

The A part is in Dm, with the B part in its relative major F. The B part is better suited to a campanella arrangement, resulting in a different feel between the two parts, not only due to the minor/major contrast.

thanks for hosting the week, John. i hope you're feeling better than ok mate.

i'm sorry this is way past the deadline - i had this in my head all week but just couldn't

find the time to record it. anyway, it's 'the rhyming song' from the Muppet Show

we were down at Snug river feeding our duck friends today and so i made up some stoopid verses myself

and took a swing at it 🙂

That’s a wrap.

Fine job everyone. 37 vids.

Val - one of her best vocals.

Wendy - covered all options in one very qualified original.

Alan - perfect week for him to show off his excellent tin pan chops.

Graham - always nails Beatles with style.

Jim - a master of multiple key changes.

Edwin - A prize winning Kate Bush. Och aye pity I’m so stingy.

Brian - A music machine that delivers the goods. A Creamy Badge here.

Steve - channeling Susan Boyle as is his want…and need.

Joo - Bringing back fine memories with a non rhymer from Hair.

Dan S - on platform jumping on Tom Waits downtown train.

Dr Mitch - Fine playing as always on a variety of axes.

Kev - A lovely vocal on a John Denver.

Joko - some funky Radiohead grooves.

Berni - wonderful original of some history close to his heart.

Threebird - Excellent vocals and playing on a new to me song.

Ralf - Posted a great Sting tune. Mid week. Timing had me questioning reality..already Sunday?

Del - Producer’s hat on. Performers hat very smooth.

Bob King - 2 super originals. One completely flouting every rule I sweated to create.

Lynda- great to see her doing Nick Drake. What a pleasure.

Jim uke4ia - A powerful tune with groovy effects.

Sabine - coming in at close of play with a beaut instrumental to assure all is right in Seasonville.
