Made some paintings inspired by Jim's and Steve's chair. "Jim Playing the Blues" and "Steve's Old Office Chair".
I don't know how Jim's creaky chair looks like, although I think he has shared a photo or 2 before. I know it has no arms. So, I made one up. All those jars on the shelves are made up too. Perhaps Maggie makes exotic jams. The lamp in the foreground is one I saw on a chest of drawers behind him in some of his videos. I think Jim must tap his foot when he plays, that's why his chair creaks. Haha. The room he is in looks a bit dingy, and there are 2 holes in the rug. It felt right to put him in a space like that as I wanted to show him playing some old folk songs, or the blues.
Steve's torn and tatty office chair was also a joy to paint. Black colour is awesome to work with. I ended up making a cluttered, messy space because I wanted to contrast with the sombre-looking office chair. I repainted Steve's face so many times that I ended up making it into a white-out caricatured image…I wanted to capture a wry expression since he seems to cover some songs that are sort of wry. At the same time, I want to show a slightly playful quality…I know he has a smallish dog which is not the kind in my painting, but these doggies love his uke and him! I can say more nonsense about my paintings as I do think about random, nonsensical things when I paint. but I will stop here.

I am currently painting one with Sabine's beautiful chair and will start to paint one inspired by Edwin's too.
Here is one I am still working on. It is a self-portrait with a 10-dollar chair.

And a finished self-portrait on paper. I love that little 10-dollar chair, but the sides do get in the way when I play a bigger uke and the banjo.
