I saw you put John Denver on this list so we took the opportunity to play a cover of Country Roads featuring Kimi, Kev, Plasma (my wonderful daughter) and Art. Got this recorded after we finished rehersal for Houkulele's Christmas concert this Sunday at the Mistletoe Market 🙂

As mentioned above I have a bad throat, so this is an instrumental version of a Snow Patrol song that I love. Some extra synth and drum parts added, and the lead “vocal” is my Carry-on Digital Wind Instrument playing a GarageBand oboe via Bluetooth. I have laboriously counted up all the notes played for each part (that’s a *Timmy Truth btw), and the baritone uke came out on top, so I don’t feel bad for adding so much extra stuff.

*Timmy Truth = blatant lie or grossly exaggerated statement (according to the Delbert Dictionary of Definitions 🤓)

Hello, Swifties! Thank you for this week, a great opportunity to learn more about TS's music. She has written some great lyrics, too. During a rare sunny moment amidst Finnish winter, I decided to torture this poet's song "loml" (2024). Taylor Swift performs it so gracefully, but my genre is "alternative 'ip 'op".

johnpoole yep, Charles Hawtrey played an optician with his eye on saucy all in wrestler Babs Windsor, only to be thwarted in his efforts by battle axe receptionist Hattie Jacques. Not the most original idea of the franchise. Still, nice cameo from Lawrence Olivier as Randy Richard III.

Here’s my song for this week, Cardigan, off Taylor’s 2020 elpee, Folklore. This is one I’ve wanted to do for a while but never got round to. The lyric is, well, I think it’s one of the best lyrics by any singer from any genre. I tried to sing it in Fm like the original but no chance, too high. I dropped it to Em, still a bit outside my range, so I dropped it again to Ebm…. I struggled again so I tried Dm but that didn’t work at all, so Ebm it is.

I used to take my daughter's to see Taylor Swift when they were younger. I went to one of the shows and there was this solo performer with a looper who I thought was really good. Gee, what happened to that guy?

Nothing wrong with loving Ed Sheeran. This song is especially meaningful to me - it was the only song I played at my wedding to the most wonderful woman in the world. It took me about 10 runthroughs to keep from cracking during it, but I made it in this take.

I am not that familiar with Ms Swift's output. Though I have watched an incredible video of her latest tour. Wow!

So, I am taking the CITY option. Here is a new song I have written (with my friend Roger Whipp providing the melody and chords) - it's about my days in Liverpool in the late 1970s and early 1980s
