Season 713 - Rhyming Green

Hello Seasonistas, welcome to the Season 713!

This week please play songs that have in the TITLE

1. The word "green" in some form. Just the good old "green" or something like "greenery", "evergreen"...

2. Any word that rhymes with "green". For example "been", "mean", "seventeen", "seen", "clean"... Also names like "Colleen", "Wien", "Aberdeen"…

(The song and the title do not need to be in English. For example Finnish words "näkemiin" (goodbye) or "naimisiin" (get married) sound like they rhyme with "green".)

If you are new to the Seasons, you can post any song.

The usual rules apply. Please mention in the video that it is for Season 713. Original songs, collaborations and instrumentals are all very welcome. Season 713 starts at 00:00 Hawaii time on Sunday 12th October and ends at 23:59 Hawaii time Sunday 19th October.

Song limit: 1 song per day or 8 songs per Season.

Hello, Ylle … and thanks for hosting; and with an intriguing theme! I'd never heard this song before this morning, but, superannuated hippie that I am, I really liked it. I don't like my version, which just sounds discordant … obviously something to do with the psychedelic vibe(?) However, I WAS very proud of the fact that I managed to sing from inside a tambourine!

With the help of generative AI, I compiled a list of songs which I believe all fit. I am too busy trying to get a workable "Wild world" not to mention that while some are probably just not at all suitable for the Uke, there are actually some great ones that are doable from some of you virtuosos. Also, even some of the ones that aren't doable can probably be arranged somehow but i will leave that as an excercise for the reader…

Bandit Queen - The Decemberists

Marginal twofer. The only one easy enough to play without too much effort that I could find from the above list. It has steed in it, which I claim is a wild animal. I never heard this song before but I kinda like it.

Here's a song that rhymes the title character with the city she lives in several times, plus has a few other rhymes for "green." This is another "vamp" song, which I briefly explained when I did "Hard-Hearted Hannah, the Vamp of Savannah" for season 626, although Sadie seems to be much more benign than Hannah. "Hold her Newt don't let her rare" was slang that I just looked up. "Hold her Newt!" meant to hold on to a horse that was rearing. So "Hold her Newt don't let her rare" should more accurately be "Hold her Newt don't let her rear." Comparing Sadie Green to an out-of-control horse.

Dave, amazing! Can I get you to do this for me every week? I spent way too long yesterday coming up with "Teen Spirit". I did think of "Mean Green Mother" - I've done a bunch of "Little Shop of Horrors" songs before but haven't done this one yet. (Oh, I see why - no chord sheet online….)

Well done, man!

(PS though - steed by definition is a "working animal" - hence specifically not wild 😢)

I have just come back last night (12th Oct) from England. We flew there from Thursday to attend a funeral of a very dear friend on Friday. She had been afflicted with a variety of cancers over the last few years and finally lost the fight.

We had known each other since meeting at a festival back in 1979. She became the big sister I had always wanted when I was a kid and knew I could never have.

The funeral was a mix of sadness and joy, since after the interment there was a gathering at which we all expressed our feelings about her and I sang this song. I held it together until the last line, but then broke down in tears.

She was one of those people who always seem to have kept the wonder and curiosity of their youth. For me she was evergreen… hence the title.

I thought my first of this season should be this original, since it fits so well. This song came about when my Doctor asked me if I ate balanced meals, and I said "Yes, if you don't count green things as food". She was not amused, but I went home and wrote this song. I Won't Eat Anything Green.
