Hello folks! Welcome to Season 726 of the Ukulele.
It's been pretty much exactly five years since I first hosted, and that week, the theme I chose was "Out of this World" - songs mentioning anything that's not on planet Earth. And, well, that's long enough ago that, combined with today being the 10th anniversary of David Bowie leaving us and presumably returning to his home planet, I thought we could revisit the topic. So… this week, I'd like you to bring us songs mentioning any kind of astronomical entity. If it contains (for example) anything suggesting stars, moons, the sun, planets (except Earth), comets, galaxies, supernovas, asteroids, or anything beyond our home world, then it fits.
Usual rules apply (see the FAQ). No special constraints on form or how much to post (that is, multitracking is okay, no song limits). Originals very much encouraged! Otherwise, some additional points and details:
- You can post any time from 00:00:00 Sunday 11th January, Hawaiian time, right up to 23:59:59 on Sunday 18th January Hawaiian time.
- Please say, either in the video, the description, or the post here, what the title and original artist (or composer) of the song are. Give credit where it's due, and please don't leave me guessing!
- There's absolutely loads of songs mentioning "sun", "moon", "stars" etc in passing. These are technically allowed, but you're all creative types, so try to dig deeper and see if you can find songs that are actually about these things in some way, rather than a simple mention in one line.
- Generative AI gives me the Ick. Please don't use it for any aspect of this season, whether for finding songs, generating art or video fragments associated with songs, and certainly not for writing songs. Again, you're all creative types, and I want to know what you come up with, not a soulless water guzzling planet boiling machine. There's no way for me to check this reliably, of course, so you'll just have to promise me you'll be good. (This rule is not up for discussion, by the way, so if you want to complain about it do it somewhere I don't have to look.)
Also, a bonus sub-theme, once you've posted your first song, you are allowed as a wild card entry any song by any of the following artists: David Bowie, They Might Be Giants, Jonathan Coulton, Half Man Half Biscuit. Why? Because I'm host and I say it's okay, that's why 🙂.
