Welcome to Season 729 of the Ukulele - Play Your Own Theme

Hi everybody!

I am posting this early because I have an early flight to catch tomorrow morning. I will be in bed after I publish this, and I won't be around until late Sunday night, 1st of Feb, Singapore time.

For this week, please find your own theme(s) by using any of these 7 images as prompts.

You may choose to use the obvious things in the images. Here's an example- let's say you're using Image 2 as a prompt, any song containing the word "bacon" is fine. Songs by a band or musician that has "bacon" in their name is fine too.

But if any of these images make you think of something less obvious or straightforward, that's even better! For example, if you think that Image 1 is about a breakup, then any breakup song is cool.

PLEASE TELL ME WHICH IMAGE YOU ARE USING AS PROMPT WHEN YOU POST YOUR ENTRY.

These are all my original cartoons. You are welcome to use any of these images in your video if you like.

Only new videos recorded specially for this week are considered entries.

But you are welcome to share anything that you think are related to this week's Season. Jokes are especially welcome.

Please bring NOT MORE THAN 7 ENTRIES per participant.

Start time: 1 Feb, Sunday, twelve midnight, Hawaiian time.

End time: 8 Feb, Sunday, twelve midnight, Hawaiian time, the following Sunday.

Multitracking is very much welcome. In this case, please make the uke the dominant instrument.

Originals and collaborations are super welcome and encouraged.

I think you might be able to find something related to "strange" in these cartoons too!

Well, I'm no Billie Holiday, but given the times, I thought "Strange Fruit" needed to make an appearance for 728.

I have an early morning and was already asleep when my Sunday 8pm alarm went off reminding me the new Season was starting and I had forgotten to make a video.

I quick grabbed a uke and made this in bed. I think the spooky lighting suits the song.

For twoferness I matched it with your image 3, used for the thumbnail, which to me evokes an enslaved person in a pastoral setting.

I chose image #5 and my theme is songs with the word "doll" in the title. The first one is "Satin Doll" with lyrics by Johnny Mercer and music by Billy Strayhorn and Duke Ellington from 1958.

Thanks for hosting Joo! So sometimes there is a word that everybody knows except me. Other times there is a word that is very common in Britain or Ireland but unknown to yanks. Perhaps someone can clarify for me. But here is the crucial line

I had no idea what a "mac" was until I learned that it is short for mackintosh which apparently is a long raincoat, which I imagine is much like the one here...

Billy Joel was a big part of my youth, especially this album, "The Stranger". Here's the title song. Starts with a whistling solo.

There are at least four of your drawings here that could easily evoke this idea of hiding your true self from your lover. For me, #7 is the winner.

I just had another super busy day catching up with my family today. First day with them in Singapore after being away for many months. Awesome to have Jon with me this time.

Joo's image 4 reminded me of The Scream by Edvard Munch. So I thought, "What's a good scream song?" and for an old rock n roller like me, it had to be this one. Shout, Shout (Knock Yourself Out)

when Del asked if I could host this Season because the original host could not do it, I was hesitant at first because I would be visiting my family in Singapore and was afraid I might not be able to fulfil my host's duty. But after a few minutes' consideration I took it up, BECAUSE HOSTING DOES NOT FEEL LIKE A JOB AT ALL. It is enjoyable. Nothing beats watching and hearing friendly, lovely people playing the uke, knowing that they have, despite their daily responsibilities and obligations, took the time to put together something for your theme.

(THANKS TO DEL FOR HELPING ME PUBLISH THE INTRO, AS I WAS NOT ABLE TO DO IT THEN)

I hope to meet you all one day in person and play the uke and sing with you. In the meantime, watching your songs is the next best thing.

many more Joes than Joos, although if you go to Korean there are tons of them there. Spell Check strangely didn't want to call out Spelll. I think maybe this is a case of favouritism.

I think we need to have a song about the busy Mr. Spell Check from Nearsighted Lemon McKay or Edwin. Maybe I will write one.
