SOTU 736 - Bootleg Whisky, Champagne and Wine

potmo

"Rum and Coca-Cola" – Andrews Sisters

Champagne (Killer Queen Moet & Shandon)
Gin
vodka
beer x 2
wine x 2
whiskey (bourbon)
rum
generic drink

A pretty well stocked liquor cabinet, though I am glad Brian remembered the Tequila!
I already was planning this and then serendipitously it became a twofer when Jim announced the 1944 recording (also written in 1944) qualifier.

potmo

"When I'm Sixty-four"

One magic line seals the twofer...

...birthday greetings, bottle of wine...

Champagne (Killer Queen Moet & Shandon)
Gin
vodka
beer x 2
wine x 3
whiskey (bourbon)
rum
generic drink (dear doctor)

I tend to not look at what anybody has posted until the season is over, in case someone else has done one of my songs. I missed posting this for my birthday season, but two other people did so... I wouldnt be surprised if this was done by someone else this week too.
Thanks again for hosting Doc and please feel free to ignore my videos I realize i was a bit prolific. OTH you kind of asked for it hehe.

Xamar25 The title has nothing to do with it. The check is on the recording. All the copyrighted songs pretty much have an arrangement with youtube and give their permission, with only a very few exceptions.

MsBean

Thanks for hosting, Paul.

I was playing American Patrol on Saturday, so I remembered this other Glenn Miller orchestra hit. The sheet music are somewhat hazy on the composer/arranger, naming only Betta.

Dr Uke has an arrangement that credits Joseph Winner, who appears to have published in it 1869. The lyrics in the Dr Uke chord sheet contain the fab verse:

'When I die, don't bury me at all, just pickle my bones in alcohol.

Put a bottle o' booze at my head and feet, and then I know that I will keep.'

potmo

Yay! I always love it when MsBean sneaks in with an eleventh hour post.

OneManAndHisPGUke I haven't hade an alcohol free beer since my brief stint as a part owner of a restaurant/ Cafe' in the nineties. But I have to say, Guiness made an alcohol-free beer that destroyed the piss that the American "breweries" pass off as a legitimate beverage. They're fine, if you can ge through the first 3.

Dr_Mitch,

You'd commented on my video from last Thursday "A Rum Tale", but you didn't add it to the playlist. Could you please add it?

dr_mitch

Thanks for letting me know! Done.

On another note, thanks everyone for taking part. I'm still catching up after a flurry of work took me unaware last week, but I'll get to the last few videos and final wrap soon.

[Weird … the original post seems to no longer be showing as deleted … if someone who's not an admin lets me know you can see it, I'll delete this one.]

The forum shows that I posted this 5 days ago (before Canada Jim's "I Must Be Drinkin' Again"), but also shows it as "deleted". I don't know what this means, so I'm posting it again in case the rest of you can't see it. Please let me know.

The only twofer I could find in the NJAMP Dropbox chord-lyric chart library has Monday in the title and mentions booze and a hangover. Only trouble, is it's by a not-well-known artist, outside that local (central New Jersey) area, who is no longer living, and I'd never heard it.

I couldn't find it or him via YouTube search. We are (were?) Facebook friends, so I went to his timeline, and - bingo! - many of Gary O'Neill's 1000+ songs that he wrote he recorded on video, and posted each one on YouTube and then FB. I followed one to his YouTube channel, and then scrolled way down until - second bingo! - I found "Cruel Monday Morning" … from February 2015!

I hope you'll watch Gary's first.

Here's my quickie cover, on a dark and gray Monday morning. My own hangover is not from booze but lack of sleep - I'm just off a long weekend of Zoom on Eastern Time (10:30pm to 10am Sat/Sun and Sun/Mon).

Okay, time for a wrap! Firstly thanks for the last run of songs to

@AlanDP @Xamar25 @CanadaJim (x3) @UkeCan1 (x3) @joo @uke4ia (x3) @UkeFoote @bobjking @potmo (x5) @OnlyUkeThatMatters @MsBean

And of course thanks to everyone who pkayed earlier. We have 50 videos in total, which is a very good number!

I make the final drink tallies to be:

Wine 15 (3 in the form of champagne)

Whisk(e)y 12 (one in a Mint Julep, one in a Hot Toddy (unless the hot toddy is rum or brandy), one specifically Knockando)

Beer 10 (one alcohol-free)

Gin 5 (one in martini, one a sloe gin)

Vodka 3 (one in a Bloody Mary, one in a Screwdriver)

Rum 3 (one with coke)

Vermouth 2 (one in a martini)

Tequila 2

Schnapps 1

Brandy 1

Cider 1 (white lightning)

Moonshine 2

Booze and drinking in general 7

That's a lot of booze, and I feel queasy. Time to go dry for a while.

But…cheers everyone!
