Season 739 - Better Together

Hello everybody, and welcome to Season 739 - Better Together.

The challenge this week is simply for you to play and sing songs with a title and/or lyrics that contain the word ‘together’. It’s as simple as that! There is no song limit this week.

One, and only one, of your entries can be a re-post of an entry from a past Season that fits the theme.

All the usual rules apply - see Edwin’s marvellous FAQ here if you’re unaware of the details.
Original songs are particularly welcome.
Multitracking and collaborations are also very welcome.

Don’t post until it’s Sunday 12th April in Hawaii, and don’t post after it‘s Sunday 19th April in Hawaii.
Most of all: HAVE FUN!

I will listen to every second of every entry and post a comment for every entry on YouTube. If I accidentally miss one, please let me know.

Instead of giving a prize, I will make a donation of £1 for every entry to the Season to a charity I will choose later in the week. EDIT: my chosen charity is the Alzheimer’s Society. I will, however, select and announce my three favourite entries at the end of the week, just for the fun of it.

Hello, Del … and thanks for hosting! I'm not sure whether I should start with a previous recording, but it seems so appropriate for the moment and I might not be able to do anything "proper" till later in the week as I still have family here and it's difficult to find time to record anything. (Sorry, I couldn't change the Season number!)

Hi Del - Great topic.
Are we allowed to re-record more than one song that we have posted in previous years? Is it the song we are not allowed to re-post or the recording?

Hi Jim - you can re-post just one previous entry that fits the theme, but if you re-record it (ie do a new version of a song you've previously brought) that's perfectly acceptable for as many entries as you like. I hope that clarifies things?

I've often put together chord sheets for songs that I didn't get made into a video before the Season ended. I looked in my computer folder of chord sheets to find unused songs that had "together" in the lyrics. It looks like I've got some good options for this week.

But in the meantime, this is my repost of a previous video. Either YouTube or Flarum is preventing me from posting something from as far back as Season 139, so here’s one from Season 351. This is “Comfortable” by Fleming & John. I was lucky enough to be in a record store in 1999 while they played the album “The Way We Are”, or I’d probably never have heard it. It’s one of my favorite albums of the ‘90s.

This song was originally written by… help me out, because I can't recall names anymore. Was it Sabine? Anyway, I changed it up a little, when I made this recording. It just made me cry, listening to it. I've become hyper sensitive. Onset prefrontal cortex dementia does that.

So here’s my ‘blast from the past’ - I wrote and recorded this 3 years ago, and here’s what I said about it at the time:

February 2023

My Dad has advancing dementia and now barely recognises me when I go to see him. He doesn’t know my name and he can’t make any meaningful conversation. But I take my ukulele, and when I start to play the songs he knows and loves, he starts to sing with me. He knows and sings all the words. And it’s beautiful!

I’ve written some sad and very personal songs in my time, but I wept more in the writing process for this one than any of them. But it helped me to process the situation then, and it still does now. Dad is somehow still alive, but he no longer sings, or talks, or even opens his eyes. But I still play and sing to him. He’s my Dad.

I'm going to start out with an old recording I did over 5 years ago, way back when I only had one uke. This song only mentions the word "together" once, right in the first line, but Eddie Cochran also recorded a version of this song as "Let's Get Together" with the last line of each verse being "Let's Get Together" instead of "Come On Everybody" They decided to release the "Come On Everybody" version.
