Recap
Good things are worth waiting for! At least I got it in before the end of NEXT season.
41 total submissions from 15 folks
Highlights:
- Jon! @jon 7 outstanding submissions! His amazing playing singing , positive energy, song selection and – Dare I say it? Thorntonian irreverence. Keep em coming Jon!
- Multiple submissions! +3 from the Jims, @CanadaJim and @uke4ia Wendy @UkeCan1 , Mitch @dr_mitch , Berni @Barbablanca and Joo @joo , who phtographed all of Jon's videos, hosted the following (current as of this writing) season, submitted 3 songs and then apologized for not doing more. That's a dedicated Seasonista!
The establishment of a new Seasonista tradition and a coined term: The Delgriff @DelGriff Special. Now in its third week! What a great idea. I hope the tradition continues. There were 8 DelGriff specials this week.
6 originals from four different people. unsurprisingly @barbalanca Berni threw down 3. All solid musically and lyrically. I wonder what would happen if he decided to put all his energy on one masterpiece. Maybe it doesn't work like that. Maybe a song just pops in and that's that. Anyway, the original that totally blew me away this season was Jim's @uke4ia "Hamlet(I need more proof)". Clever as hell. And it wasn't a DelGriff but it was fun to see a 20 year old song revived.
Ila @Ila Gangster Rap!!!
Lowlights:
- My general lameness. At least I finally got it done. Thanks for putting up with me. I did an incredibly terrible job skipping people all over the place in the playlist, but I think I finally got it.
- People I miss not submitting. Obviously people get busy and are under know obligation but i still am dissapointed whenever certain someones don't post
- Del Griff @DelGriff snubbing the DelGriff special. WTF?.
- nobody nominated a charity
- Willie was snubbed. James Brown is great. But he is not exactly the easiest to cover on a uke. Poor Willie and he is even alive. Don't tell him we snubbed him.
The potmo's favorite song prize is a three-way tie! Speaking of foolish, don't ever attempt to assign one prize for the best song.
- "The Fool on The Hill" - Brian @UkeFoote . Can't say enough about this one. Just listen to it. You will see what I mean.
- "Come into my Kitchen" - John @johnpoole An amazing no-holds-barred channeling of Robert Johnson. Awesome song. Awesome Performance.
- "Winnsboro Cotton Mil lBlues" - Jon A fantastic song and some really mind blowing chord-melody-pickin-strummin what have you. All 7 of Jon's songs are delightful.
Honorable mention goes to
- the amazing CanadaJim Delgriff special "The Foolish Frog"
- Wendy's all time greatest twofer ever "Swinging on a Star" with interjections interjected.
Best new to me song: Wendy's "Conservative Christian, Right-Wing Republican, Straight White American Males". I gotta learn this one.
Best blast from the past song.: Mitch's "Itchycoo Park". I completely forgot about this song having only kind of vaguely heard it on the radio a few times. I watched their vido and couldn't help cracking up at their haircuts and outfits. They looked so uncomfortable, like they were being forced by their manager to conform to the trend of the time. But the song is pretty awesome and so were their performances.
Several of my favorite songs showed up including "Come Into My Kitchen", "Fool on the Hill", "Like a Rolling Stone(Mitch)", "Waste Deep in the Big Muddy(Canada)" and last but certainly not least "Cheat" (Ralph @OnlyUkeThatMatters ). When I grow up I want to turn punk rock songs into ukulele hits like Ralph does.
Tidbits:
This isnt really good or bad but just interesting to me. Nearly everyone chose songs with the noun fool or synonyms. Only Fool on the Hill vaguely qualified for the whole different drummer take. I was expecting songs about beintg tricked or fooled and there was only 1 usage of the term fool for this specifically from Boston Jim. He also had another song with a verb "fool" that seems to me to be more along the lines of acting like a fool. Berni wrote a song about being fooled. Wendy did "fooled around". Just kind of surprised by that.
Pete Seeger got honored 3 times (waste deep, Winssboro) though only once (Foolish Frog) on his actual birthday
Bing got two tributes
Even though I was stressed and unable to participate as fully as I would have liked, you guys put together another great song list. Thank you I have listened to each one and even if I didnt mention you above you are all great and I love listening to each and every one of you:
I think that's everyone!
That's a rap!
Now back to interjecting some interjections ...
