Thanks @CanadaJim , I never knew that! I’d like to get a bowler. They always seem either too tight or too loose in the headband, but I saw one in our local antiques place a week or so back. If it gone it’s no biggie, they have old bowlers in there regularly.
And so, here is Season 749 wrap!
First of all thank you everyone who took part and posted a video. As always it’s a pleasure to see what comes up when you have posted your Seasons theme; you never know what it will be, it’s like opening birthday presents every day for a week. In the end we had 52 songs on the playlist, some of which were “blasts from the past” as per the Season rules, but mostly new songs. Ralf, Chris, Andy, Brian, Tin Pan Alan, and Southern John posted 1 apiece. There were two from Sabine, Jim Uke4ia, Cody, Val, Nearsighted Lemon and CeeJay. Canada Jim, and you host brought 3. Both Wendy and Potmo contributed 5 songs. And finally, Joo and/or Jon gave us 15 songs altogether!! Quantity and quality! I think I counted 7 originals as well!
And those ukes! Oh man we had some real beauties, it’s difficult to pick out a favourite but mine would probably be Chris Lanzon’s plastic Flamingo uke, closely followed by Val’s cigar box uke but they were all ( more or less) awesome. There was a lot of plastic flying around, Nearsighted Lemon showed a real feast of uke plastic. And a lot of paint flying around too, as we had Jon and Joo’s beautiful painted ukes! So many of them, each with a painted tale to tell.
It’s true that very few of the ukes we saw this week were “nasty”, but perhaps it’s a tie for nastiest uke between Jim Yates’ cocolele (wonderfully hideous) and Joo’s elastic bands for strings, ruler for a neck, handmade uke. I loved them both.
Thanks also to CeeJay for bringing back memories of Les Dawson in Robinson Crusoe at the Alex Theatre in Brum, 1971, and the late Cox Twins playing “Never on a Sunday” on electric guitars.
What made this week for me in particular was the demonstration, beyond doubt, that you DO NOT need an expensive uke to make utterly amazing music.
And finally, I said there would be a prize. A CD is already winging its way to Joo because she spotted the connection in my little mini quiz earlier. Another CD is going to go to…….. (drum roll) ……
@CanadaJim . I could have picked every single one of you, and, if money were no object you would all be getting a prize! But Jim’s slide blues on the Cocolele was heroic and redeemed that 4 string ugly duckling, so Jim, pm me your details and I will get that sent off for you. It may not be until after next week as I’m way from this evening and all week but back from the 13th and I’ll get that sorted. Thank you all again for indulging my silly theme and running with it so willingly, as you do week in week out.
