"Time's Monster" by Priya Satia describes how the discipline of history was constructed, based on flawed concepts of time, by self-proclaimed "Great Men" to justify the violence and theft of the British Empire.
Last week I finished reading this book for the Partnership Explorations course, and was thinking to write a parody song about it, to go with the "Michelle" Foucault book parody I did for 653/4.
The 672 "passage of time" theme was perfect for it, but the week was nearly over and I hadn't gotten to it. It's not an easy book to capture in a 3-minute song!
Then this morning the 673 empire theme came out. Could I have *asked* for a better confluence of themes for this twofer I was already planning to write?!
I searched "emp" in my Dropbox of song charts, and thought Jackson Browne's "Running on Empty", which is already a song about the passage of time would do nicely.
