Season 678 - Blue is the Colour

dr_mitch

Welcome to Season 678.

This week, the theme is the colour blue. So please bring songs which mention the colour blue in the title or lyrics, or songs which belong to the blues genre.

If you’re new to the Seasons, welcome and many more times welcome! Your first song this week can be anything you choose, whether or not it’s blue in colour.

The usual rules apply: https://seasonistaforum.flarum.cloud/d/16-what-are-the-seasons-of-the-ukulele-and-other-faqs-with-answers

Original songs, collaborations and instrumentals are all very welcome. Multiple versions of the same song are fine.

Season 678 starts at 00:00 Hawaii time on Sunday, February 9 and ends at 23:59 Hawaii time Sunday, February 16.

Song limit: 99 songs per person. No more please!

Huzzah!

And please don’t forget Season 677 is still going, so it’s not too late to send a letter.

99 songs… I’ll see if I can hit that.😄 (can barely make one.😊) But BLUE is a favorite color of mine so that’s extra motivation right there!💙🩵💙🩵

johnpoole

Is it ok to take a Green song and remove all references to Yellow?🙂

dr_mitch

johnpoole that seems like lot of work, but I believe hard work should be rewarded. 😉

TCK

Been so busy lately…hope to get one in this week. 99. Don’t tempt me. I have done 53 in one season 😂😂

Hello, Paul, and many thanks for hosting! I seem to be first up … I just had to check the time difference to make sure I wasn't too early. This song occurred to me as it has several references to being blue. Because it's rather short and everyone knows it, I tried to make it a bit more interesting by going a tasteful shade of faded blue and showing off my extensive collection of straw hats.

The Blues My Naughty Sweetie Gives To Me - McCarron/Morgan/Swanstone - 1919

I learned this from The Greenbriar Boys' Ragged But Right LP.
Thanks for being our host this week Paul.

"Hello Bluebird" from 1926.

Hi. Great big wide open theme this week! Fantastic! Thank you, Dr. Mitch!

MY BLUE HEAVEN - George Whiting & Walter Donaldson
That first string won't stop buzzing. Guess I'll have to file the saddle.

Thanks for a topic with lots of choices Paul.

Great theme this week, Mitch! And even better, I've been working on a song recently that fits the bill.

My Bb isn't perfect, I've got some working yet to do on my barre chords. And I could have presented a better take of this one musically and vocally, but my kitty demanded I give you this one. And perfection is overrated, anyway.

dr_mitch

By the way, I’m out tonight, but I’ll sort out the playlist tomorrow!

joo

hey thanks for hosting Mitch!

here's a little video I made inspired by a few things:

your theme;
John Poole talking about yellow and green;
Tanya's reply to me when I asked her how she had been.

In fact, I made a little video of me putting the words she said on our "Make Your Own Meaning" noticeboard.

(I call it that because that's what we use it for. it is something we found at the local tip shop. i think maybe it got chucked out because there were no commas……no emojis too. how can the modern person cope?)

This is for Tanya. 🙂

Words:

when you feel blue

talk to your friend

she won't judge you

she won't go "Boo!"

she won't try to fix you

by talking philosophy

she takes your blues

how blues wanna be

when you feel blue

talk to your friend

she won't judge you

she won't go "Boo!"

she might add some yellow

and make your green(grin).

(how am i doing with my songwriting?)

Robert Johnson wrote and first recorded this. The version here draws heavily on the Clapton-Cream and Lrnynrd Skrynrd versions. Played on a Lunar Baritone Ukelele Guilele

Thanks for hosting, Doc! 🙂

So, here’s a thing - this could be my first ever twofer! I’m not aware of ever previously submitting the same qualifying song to two Seasons on overlap day; which doesn’t mean it hasn’t happened - just that I have a very bad memory! 😆

This one qualifies for Ylle’s letter Season 677 as it mentions a folded letter in the very final verse, and it qualifies for Doc’s Season 678 from the title and the mention of ‘blue’ in every chorus.

Here’s another thing - it’s the second Yazoo cover I’ve done in a row. And here’s yet another thing - I’d decided to do this one yesterday when Paul announced his theme, only for somebody (not connected with the Seasons) who commented today on YouTube on my previous Yazoo cover, to request this very song. Spooky!

Baritone uke with some synth bass and pads, and some harmony vocals.
