WHen I signed up to host this week, I thought of noting that I'd be ready to go, and that nothing barring some huge unforseen disaster would prevent me form carrying out my duties this time. I thought about the slim possibility of one side of the ongoing civil war here in Myanmar making a breakthrough on the battlefield and then trying to take Mandalay, the city where I live…. Nah, like I said - slim possibility.
I certainly didn't think a 7.7 magnitude earthquake would literally decimate the city. That was two weeks ago now, and for me at least, things have almost got back to normal. My high-speed fiber internet service has been offline since two days after the earthquake (it worked in the immediate aftermath). I can still connect using the data connection on my mobile - but it's painfully slow and even more painful in getting the ISP out here to figure out what's wrong…. Finally, after many calls to them and no calls back, I got a service appointment for tomorrow. So, off we go with 687!
Now, the topic this week is SHOULD. One thing I'm just not too keen on is people telling me what I should or shouldn't do. My distate for that word has actually increased as I've gotten older. We've all met the type; it seems like every other utterance they make includes "you should…". It just bugs me.
So, let's embrace all those SHOULDS and SHOULDN'Ts out there in the lyrics of songs! There's plenty of songs to choose from. You may also perform songs like "I'm Alright" by Kenny Loggins, which quite plainly express a feeling of disdain for unsolicited advice, eventhough the word "should" does not appear in its lyrics. It's Sunday to Sunday.
I've made an intro video, but due to the difficulties of uploading using just my phone connection, it'll come later.
