Well, this was a strange one! I usually record and post my Seasons entry on a Thursday (it’s my regular day off from work, in lieu of working Saturdays). It gives me a good few days to think about the theme and plan my song choice. But this week I’d drawn a blank - I had nothing in the pipeline. Until, that is, I received a YouTube comment this morning from one of my subscribers, asking me to cover one of her favourite songs. In fact she’d also requested it a while back - I’d listened to the song then and decided against it at the time. In desperation I listened again, and I liked it much more than I did before. But what chance that a band member would be called Shirley? Shirley not - I mean, surely not! However… the band in question is the Magnetic Fields, and one of their number is a singer (and, even more coincidentally, a ukulele player) called Shirley Simms! I couldn’t believe my luck!!!
