Season 696 - Give That Uke A Break!

Joko

I really wasn't sure what was meant by doing it Acapulco style..

I mean, Mexican music? Oh, Acapulco means without instruments behind it… Ah, well this Cheech and Chong bit should fit the bill, Definitely Acapulco style!

Nearsighted-Lemon-McKay

DelGriff One of his many ukes and many many hats

CanadaJim

Love that photo, Jim!

Everyone looks so lovely! Look at the smiles!

And hi again, Seasonistas!

Hope everyone is having a nice weekend or start of a new week!

I have added the videos that came in (since I last checked in) to the playlist! I will come back again a few hours later to comment!

Later!!!

OnlyUkeThatMatters

Tapped my uke's mute button for the third chorus of this Danny Ray tune that I know from the Clash's version on London Calling…

…I tried tapping the mute button more often while practicing, though I couldn't quite feel my way through this one without that ukulele reggae guiding me along!

UkeCan1

By request! (And a twofer.)

"One Ton Tomato", parody based on a common mondegreen of "Guantanamera". I wrote the verse to be all about food while sounding as close to the original Spanish words as possible.

Meets 3 of 4 Season 697 sub-themes, sort of:

❌ 1) Single-name artist

✅ 2) Single-word title ("Guantanamera")

✅ 3) "One" in the title ("One Ton Tomato")

✅ 4) Video less than 1:11

Plus I started a capella for 696 ... with a bit of electronic cowbell for requester man Ken. (I hope a bit of fake percussion still counts as a cappella - no uke anyway, and requires the same level of skill to stay in tune till the chords come in!)

joo

one more song from me!

I made this for Season 697 but as I recorded it there was some part without the uke, so I am including it here!

The song is titled "concealer" which is a kind of make-up people apply on skin to cover up their flaws.

I am waiting for a little bit more, then I will come back and do an official ending to this Season!

MsBean

No uke for the intro, but a faint kalimba. That's then followed by the a cappella lyrics, followed by a bit of uke.

Thanks for the challenge, Joo!

Wendy @UkeCan1 is such a great performer. So entertaining to watch. It makes me happy to see her enjoying playing. Actually, it makes me happy to see all of you enjoy playing and singing! Thanks Wendy and everyone! PS. I love that mint green colour you are wearing, Wendy. It is so cool and such a contrast to your hair and warm personality.

I was blown away (again) by Threebird's @Threebird acapella cover of the Woody Guthrie song he brought. If you haven't checked it out, please do!!! Thanks so much, Threebird!

Jim @CanadaJim brought a brilliant song for some acapella parts! He slapped his lap like he meant it too! Check it out! LOL. Thanks Jim!

Joko @Joko brought a fun duo!! I dunno exactly what they are singing and talking but i think one of them smoked way too much weed….LOL. Thanks Joko!

I am surprised Ralf @OnlyUkeThatMatters mentioned the challenge he had with the song he brought….I guess singing WITHOUT the uke can disrupt the flow or groove. This only made me even more impressed with what he did. I think he smashed it! Thanks for your awesome cover, Ralf!!!

Wendy brought 1 ton of tomatoes. LOL. A fun parody! Now I am singing that non-stop…. Thanks Wendy!

Joo brought some art and short song about why someone has to wear makeup to cover the eyebags…,

Sabine @MsBean brought a home-made improv/original song (is it, Sabine?). I hope it was fun doing that, Sabine! I was smiling when I watched it! Thanks so much!

OK guys! Season 696 has now ended!

I hope it has been a nice "break" for all of you! Hehe.

I learned something from hosting this -

It seems like most of us find it difficult not to have the uke constantly accompanying.

So, I am VERY IMPRESSED by what everyone has done for this theme!

Thanks again!

I shall come back with some prizes things.

DelGriff

@joo Thanks so much, Joo - great theme, great Season, great hosting! :-)

joo

Thanks for participating in Season 696, everyone!

Huge thanks to Jon for taking this video of me doodling all participants from memory.

If you would like an image of your doodled "portrait" , PM me please.

Love you guys. Have a great week everyone!

johnpoole

joo haha…that was great. You made me look like Barry McKenzie. Look up that most Australian cartoon character.

DelGriff

joo

Hahaha! Fabulous - love the pics and love the commentary too! And I’ve already started cultivating a monobrow! 😆

joo

@DelGriff Del! LOL. That monobrow was actually my way of drawing your brow bone…HAHAHAHAA….

Anyway, I woke up and realised that I forgot to draw Graham. He had deleted his song and since I got all the names from the playlist, I left him out. Sorry, Graham. Jon deleted his songs too but had uploaded them again, so I remembered to add him in the drawing.

Boy…it's too many words in the morning…still waking up here……. But I have made a video drawing Graham!

Here is a drawing i made in my notebook before we filmed the video….and Jon drew everyone too, except Graham, as Jon was looking at the list without Graham's video)

THANKS AGAIN, EVERYONE!!!

Nearsighted-Lemon-McKay

joo I never looked better

johnpoole

Nearsighted-Lemon-McKay well you are nearsighted🙂

johnpoole

I like Jon's Berni the Octopus Monster!

joo

@johnpoole

laughing so hard here…….

UkeCan1

Omg, amazing!

A perfectly hosted season Joo, thank you.

My week turned busy so I didn’t have time to interact properly, hence my entry deletion.

dr_mitch

If anyone's familar with (or remembers) the "Guess Who" boardgame, we could now play that with Seasonistas!

What a brilliant way to wrap up the season.
