redpaul1 I made a short! When You Walk In The Room. One of my favourites to play and sing, this time performed on my plastic Flying Tiger soprano, tuned as all sops should be, to D. It may be cheap (£10), plastic and bear a picture of a singing octopus, but it does have perfect intonation and it's about time it made an appearance on these pages 😁

Barbablanca Here is a post-break up song. Our narrator thinks he may have gotten over her… But has he? Is there a happy ending, or is this just another cycle in an endless loop of unrequited longings. Why does he have to repeat the last line to himself three times? Who is he trying to convince? Like so many of my songs, this was built on memories of a broken idyll in my youth. This one was written during 2024, but I hadn't made a video of it. Thanks for the theme, Jim.

Ila Hello, Jim, and thank you for hosting this week. I was going to do a simple ballad by Meatloaf, but then I thought about what I consider to be the ultimate song of unrequited love I've ever heard. So, with apologies to Broadway, here is "On My Own," from Les Miserables.

I first heard it as the music on a TV advert, and tracked it down from there. I love it. Baritone uke with some added synth bass, piano and pads. AlanDP Sometimes the love is unrequited because one of you has no choice but to leave the country, and the other has no choice but to stay. Written by Lawton Williams in 1957, recorded by Bobby Helms. Williams was a country singer/songwriter who never had much success as a recording artist but others had hits with his songs. This is one of those songs that was released as a B-side but became the hit, while the A-side was a commercial flop. Later in 1957 Helms had another hit with "My Special Angel," which sounds much more like a 50s pop song while "Fraulein" sounds much more like a country song. Both hits charted on the country and pop charts. "Fraulein" is a big favorite around here. Anytime it's performed many of the audience will be singing along.
CanadaJim I believe the first 25 contributions are all on the playlist. (Let me know if I missed any.) I was a bit worried that listening to all of these songs would really bring me down, but it was just the opposite. -A couple of originals from Brian and Berni were quite impressive. -Mitch, Alan, Threebird, Lemon, and Val have all made more than one contribution. -While I was expecting a bunch of country tunes, we got blues, pop, showtunes and other genres as well. -We're about half way through the week, and I'm looking forward to some more sad love songs in the next 4 days. -Thanks to all who have given us songs so far.
