SOTU 708 Antediluvian to Zero

UkeCan1

I defy you to find a better twofer. The perfect silly punk bus parody song, first recorded on the Dr Demento Show in 1980 ... exactly 45 years ago today! - Sept 14, 1980.

"Another One Rides the Bus" by Weird Al Yankovic

UkeCan1

I spent way too much time last week, and again yesterday, trying and failing to find a suitable twofer song about Noah's ark. It's amazing how rarely they actually use the word "flood" in those songs.

So we'll have to go with this 1970 surprise hit about waiting for a train - a "modern spiritual", as Lawrence Welk dubbed it, on his famous TV show of the time.

"One Toke Over the Line" by Brewer and Shipley

OnlyUkeThatMatters

Here's "The Popular Wobbly," a hit from the 1920 edition of the IWW's (Industrial Workers of the World) Little Red Song Book. Lyrics by T-Bone Slim, sung to the tune of "They Go Wild, Simply Wild, Over Me."

To fan the flames of discontent, ukulele-style 😛

Ylle's contribution reminded me that it's been a while since I played a piece from Tony Mizen's From Lute To Uke arrangements.

I picked a galliard composed by John Dowland for this week.

Personally, I'm looking forward to 2026, which is the 400th anniversary of John Dowland's death. Elizabeth Pallett is working on a big video project:

Thanks everyone.

An enjoyable week despite distractions on my end.

A couple of Triple Scarecrow Awards for those Out Standing in their Field.

Brian Fergus. A super polished bit of prog. rock goodness.

Jim Yates. Music anthology skills on display.

Bob King. Fine Antediluvian original.

Alan. Lovely bits of history.

There were plenty of others just as good. But this a bit of stale ham, small round of pita bread and limp lettuce….that’s right it’s been a mini wrap!
