SOTU 712 - That's Wild!

CanadaJim

WHERE DID ROBINSON CRUSOE GO WITH FRIDAY ON SATURDAY NIGHT?
Sam M. Lewis / Joe Young / George W. Meyer 1916

"Where there are wild men, there must be wild women!"

I learned this song from my friend Catfish Willie, but my first guitar hero, Jackie Washington also does a great version too.

AlanDP

Here's a song that's new to me, took me all week to get it. Still messed up a little.

Threebird

It took me a while to come up with a song because apparently I know nothing that qualifies.

Today I had the house to myself for an hour so I flipped though a duotang of lyrics/chords of songs I meant to learn on guitar and found one I figured I could give a go. I haven't heard the song in a whole lot of years, and I've never played it on uke, and I figured I shouldn't listen to the song now because then I wouldn't get around to post anything. So I just followed the chords and lyrics and sang it how I remember Dar Williams' version going - I think the verse and chorus are in the neighbourhood, but I was just guessing on the bridge. I ran through a simple version for a bit, then used the first take I got all the way through. Hopefully I didn't go too far astray due to a poor memory.

As I post this, I noticed that Canada Jim has already posted a version, but this is all I got, so for this Season I give you 'Wilder than Her' by Fred Eaglesmith…

UkeCan1

I discovered this song 11 years ago for Season 130, reggae, when I noticed a distinct absence of female artists and went looking for one to cover. I found this powerful anthem by Queen Ifrica of Jamaica - "Lioness on the Rise". It resonates even more deeply today.

Accompanied by the usual chorus of wild Australian animals of the air. The kookaburras arrived a minute late to the party, sadly.

Thanks for hosting, Andy! 🙂

I’ve been wrestling with this song over the last few days - apologies to anyone that’s already viewed the two previous incarnations that I subsequently deleted. On both occasions when I went back to listen the morning after, I heard things that needed to be changed - the key, the vocals, various sound levels etc. Anyway, I’m planning to stick with this version - it’s my newish concert uke and various synth and percussion additions.

Monkey - George Michael cover (SOTU 712)

Twofer: "teen" / mosquito is a wild animal

"Smells Like Teen Spirit" - Nirvana

AlanDP This is amazing! I don't think I could do this in a lifetime let alone just a week. Seems like every measure is a new chord. Very cool.

Thanks everyone. We’re off hiking all weekend in Marin, so I have a lot of commenting to catch up on. But I have updated the playlist. Thanks to everyone for a great week so far. As of this writing you still have about 18 hours to contribute a song to our feral menagerie.

Cat Stevens mansplains to the lady how hard her life is going to be without him protecting her. No wonder she dumped him. Well this is far from perfect, but my fingers are too sore. Probably the hardest song I have done yet. I didn't think the riffs were doable, but shout out to @bensuketues for making the impossible almost doable.

OnlyUkeThatMatters

There is a wild scene Portland, Oregon, lately. People in inflatable animal suits have been dancing outside the local Immigration and Customs Enforcement building. Wild.

Also, Texas art rock band Big Bill wrote a song a few weeks ago with advice for the people working inside the ICE building (who occassionally come outside to assault a guy wearing an inflatable frog costume) with lyrics mentioning both "wild boars" and "angry bees."

So that's pretty much the only one song appropriate for me to learn this Season 😛

Where The Wild, Wild Flowers Grow - Ola Belle Reed

The uke is tuned GCEG for this song.

Alan's song with the same title reminded me of this one.

UkeFoote

Hawkwind's "Silver Machine" for concert ukulele with singing; overdubs of Ashbory Ubass and secondary vocal. I'd say this is mildly wild.

Thanks for hosting, Andy!

DesertPavement

One from your host, in which the narrator is referring to the aftermath of their sighting of Bigfoot (s/he’s out there, somewhere!).

I don't know if other languages are accepted. Kikker means frog in Dutch.

My generation grew up with this daily TV programme, Plons, de gekke kikker (Plons, the crazy frog). As per Wikipedia there is an English name for the programme, Splash, the frog.

An anonymous song, arranged by E.C.B.

Soprano uke plays the melody, baritone uke for the chords.

What a fantastic week of wild music. Thanks to all the Seasonistas who weee able to play a song. And for those of you who might have started working on something but couldn’t find the time or motivation to record and post it, maybe now you have something for another season with enough thematic overlap. Or, you could always post it on the Island.

Now it’s off for the greener pastures of Ylle’s Season 713. Thanks again all.

CanadaJim

Thanks for an excellent hosting job Andy.
I took your advice and posted my late "WILD" on the ISLAND.
