Seasons of the Ukulele

A weekly song challenge for ukulele players - all welcome. Find out more here

Attracting new participants

DelGriff

A lot of us probably found the Seasons after joining UU and looking through the sub-forums. Since that won’t be happening now, maybe we could make an extra effort to spread the word in other ways - online and offline. For example, making reference to the new forum (with a link) in our YouTube video descriptions would be great. Also, in real life, just by talking to other players at ukulele events?

Here’s a downloadable QR code link to this forum that you could keep on your phone, tablet or printed literature for other potential members to scan.

ou said it, Del. Agreed.
You said it, Del. Agreed. I can see from the URL of the image it's in the forum's assets.
Let me try again to see if this works…

Nope.. Error message

lets try BBC code

It's safe to say that the total number of Seasons videos is in the tens of thousands… 40 per week is 2000 per year x 12

Joko

one more…

Now the forum is up and running, I think we should offer a really, really nice prize for a season.

I have one in mind for 670, but it depends on the number of us who have social media and/or are still active on UU. There's no point in my offering it if people in other places can't see it.

That is a generous idea!

One obstacle is, that those running a ukulele forum will probably not be very happy with members openly advertising for a competing ukulele forum in said forum. There might be a subtle way to drop a word about a new forum running, but a post saying "come to this site in stead everyone, we have prizes", will probably not be allowed to stand.

chris667

UkingViking They may not like it, but if you are censored that isn't a good look for them, is it?

DesertPavement

Joko, how would you feel about me using your simple logo as a watermark on YT videos?

Edwin

I'll certainly be pointing people here from my various other online musical communities that have ukulele players in them. Perhaps before I do that, it'd be good if one of us worked out how to put just a bit more information on the front page, which would be a bit more welcoming that beeing greeted with a collection of forums. Maybe even just a welcome message and a pointer to the FAQ and the main seasons forum.

I don't know how to do that, or if it's even possible, but I'll try to have a poke around later today.

DelGriff

In the YT description of my latest SOTU video I’ve included the following statement. Please feel free to copy and paste it into your own, or do something similar to help spread the word?

Performed as an entry for the Seasons Of The Ukulele (SOTU) song challenge. Any ukulele players who wish to take part (all are welcome) please visit:

The facebook group UKULELE LOVERS has over 18K users. Maybe we should reach out and let people know what this community is about.

If we are going to (hopefully) attract new members, don't we need to have some sort of introductory blurb like we had on The Forum? Edwin did a fantastic one on there … https://forum.ukuleleunderground.com/threads/what-are-the-seasons-of-the-ukulele-and-other-faqs-with-answers.159824/ Could we not just transfer this … not sure whether it contains any allusions to the Forum?

You mean the one he posted here a week ago, Val? 🤔😆

DelGriff Aah … and whoops! How did I miss that??? Silly me! (Having said which, though … where is it? Would it be the first thing that prospective Seasonistas might find when they come to the site?)

DelGriff

LimousinLil

It's 'stuck' as the second post from the top in the Seasons Of The Ukulele category - not sure it could be much more prominent. 🤔

LimousinLil

Aha! And thank you! Do you know, I've never accessed that page? I am - officially - an idiot!

Edwin

It would be good if we could have some blurb on the front page, briefly saying what this place is and linking to the FAQ. It's not obvious to me how to do that, but surely it must be achievable (I haven't tried very hard yet).

YorkSteve

Edwin There is an option for a Custom Header. I briefly tested it, and it appears right at the top. However, it needs to be coded in HTML, which I haven't used for a year or three. I'll see what I can remember, and have a go at crafting something simple.

Edwin

YorkSteve I spotted that one, but I'd say it puts it in the wrong place. I think it'd be more noticeable and more helpful if it was just above the 'Announcements' forum. There must be a way…
