UkeCan1 one of my favorites! Wish I had thought of this.

kolibri

Thank you for hosting, Joo. Jam was on my shopping list, so I played a ditty about jam and porridge.

Ah the seventies! When you had 3-5 choices of live TV entertainment after 10 pm, with no escape from commercials. Oh and the commercials! What really makes this song funny is that these are products that really were advetised ad nauseum and apparently people bought them since the ads didnt go away. People were just as gullible as always and there was always someone around to exploit them. Some things don't change.

@UkeCan1 Even better with her lyrics, if I do say so myself! So happy to see my sister continuing to participate!

Good morning and good afternoon and good evening to you!

it is Sunday morning here which means the next Season has been posted and it has, which means most people might not stay here too much which makes me a little sad (one single tear has fallen that's all). It is super windy here today. like 40 knots per hour and UP kind of wind, and rain, so I think that UMBRELLAS should be on everyone's shopping list. wait, a brolly is useless in this wind….

Edwin, Xamar, and Ylle brought us hammers and visions and dreams and jam, which are all very essential. David brought us lots of fancy (and unnecessary) things advertised on late night TV ads in the 70s. What's next?

I am looking forward to more entries. I know it is going to quiet down from here, but i am sure some of you might need to make some last-minute shopping.

Xamar25 one of my favorites! Wish I had thought of this.

You can still do it! I know you will sound awesome on this one! Always great to see different versions!

potmo So happy to see my sister continuing to participate!

Yeah, me too!

Edwin (I'd never get away with this on the other forum would I?

i need to say this, many great protest songs like yours had been posted on the UU without any problem. In fact. there had been Seasons just on Protest Songs on the UU.

EDIT: for fear of this thread turning into another debate about "the great schism", I am sharing a lovely performance called "Pastime With Good Company", played on a cheap uke by Tor Einor Bekken. Hopefully this is a reminder that we are all just here to share some songs and enjoy each other's company online. Looking forward to more songs from you!

Xamar25 Yes, do it! 🥰

joo I am happy to abide by any agreements about what is and isn’t appropriate content for this group. I didn’t see any such agreements when I decided to post this, really inspired by @UkeCan1’s tribute to MLK by Elvis Presley (who knew Elvis wrote about MLK? I sure didn’t).

UkeCan1

Xamar25 Elvis didn't write songs, but that song was written for him, because he cared deeply about that issue. I didn't know about it either! The song chart was in my Dropbox (from a jam group in NJ), but I didn't know the song and didn't look at it until I was looking for a twofer, and it was the only Elvis song I could find that was about wanting something other than a woman.

joo

Xamar25 Oh I love your song, Xamar! I wasn't talking about your song!

I don't know of any other special agreements here except to enjoy playing our uke!

Bucket List

Big River

My Love-Chasing-on-the-Mississippi List

St. Paul, MN
Davenport, IA
St louis, MO (St louie)
Memphis, TN (Bluff City)
Natchez, MS
Baton Rouge, LA
New Orleans, LA
Gulf of Mexico (yes that's Mexico NOT America Donnie)

(I discovered a verse which was missing from the original recording involving Natchez, but only after recording what I had, – I try not to subject my viewers to too long a vid anyway so... It has a really sweet line in it though "It was raining when I left there so nobody saw me cry...) It's also is kind of an interesting in that, unlike every other verse, The lady he is chasing does not (dis)appear.

OnlyUkeThatMatters

I wish I had time to play more Clash covers this week!

Luckily, I had time for "The Sound of Sinners" from Sandinista! right before dinner…

joo

Good morning and good afternoon and good evening to you!

Awesome to see 2 entries today! Good ones too! Thanks David and Ralf!

Here is one from me. It is called Birdwatching Gone Wrong and is inspired by my obsession with (budget) cameras.

My plan is NOT to put "cameras" on my shopping list. I have what is good enough for me to record a bird singing in a tree and that is all i need. (yes I keep saying that but i keep looking at them online. argh) The lyrics are not totally true. I will never own one of those huge telephoto lenses because I am not strong and rich enough. The video is made up of clips I took of birds. No AI stuff.

Barbablanca

I had a last minute gig offered to me (performance in a mini festival yesterday) earleir this week so my plans to do another video for this season were shelved.

The song I'd like to hear before dying would be Melanie's song "The Saddest Thing" because it contains what I would hope would be my last words.

"I will not weep or make a scene…… I will just say. "Thank you life, for having been!"

Thanks for hosting. I am still so embarrassed about missing my last hosting, due to my terrible memory, that I haven't volunteered since. 😢

UkeCan1

I've taken a few minutes out from hosting to bring a twofer while there's still time.

The inimitable Dick Van Dyke turned 100 this week. He's still with us! I wanted to celebrate him and all the laughter and joy he's brought us for longer than I've been alive.

I did "Chim Chim Cher-ee" very recently, so here's "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang".

722 theme fit: celebration (plus I've always thought of CCBB as a Christmas movie … even though it isn't 🤷‍♀️).

721 theme fit: I am actively wishing and working to get my own heroic car, Chloe, flying again.

Now back to commenting on all your delightful submissions over at 722…

MsBean

I still had the Thanksgiving song I was going to do for Kevin's season, but I decided to go with Joo's call for originals.

I'm not a big fam of pumpkin pie, and nobody in my family likes pumpkin soup but me. So, I'm trying new things to use up the Halloween pumpkin puree: White Chocolate Pumpkin Blondies.

EDIT: The recipe is linked in the YouTube description. But I'll add it here as well:

Thanks Wendy @UkeCan1 and Sabine @MsBean for your songs!

I saw Dick Van Dyke on TV today. He looked happy and well. Your song made me smile so much, Wendy!

And Sabine, really loved your original. Maybe you will be singing it when you make the blondies? We might try to make some too while singing your song! Someone in my house is into baking lately.

It is nice to end Season 721 with a celebratory song and some yummy white chocolate pumpkin blondies!!!

I said I was going to pick someone and draw a cartoon of him or her. Well, I have decided that i will make a cartoon of everyone who has participated. No trip to the post office this time. Thanks to the old iPad that has been neglected for a while, I used an app called Sketchbook if anyone is interested.

I have enjoyed listening to all your songs, thank you everyone! Hope you all have a good week ahead and enjoy Wendy's party! (Oh, I tried to draw every one of your friends in your Mercedes Benz video too, Wendy! )
