This is the tech I use:
GarageBand for iPad (free app with an iPad) - if you’re not sure what it does, think of it as a portable recording studio with hundreds of extra instrument sounds included, all playable on-screen or with a MIDI keyboard attached;
iMovie for iPad (free app with an iPad), although for the last 18 months I’ve increasingly been dabbling with Power Director on iPad, which has more features than iMovie and costs £35 for a year’s subscription - I record the video on my Samsung Galaxy S22 phone, then import it into iMovie (or Power Director), and add the audio in from GarageBand;
MIDI controller keyboard, which hooks up to the iPad (GarageBand) and has full size piano keys - cost me less than £100 new about 4 years ago;
Rode NT-USB Mini condenser microphone £88;
A Carry-On Digital Wind Instrument - adds to the fun and and adds a bit of interest to the video - cost about £80.
So, bearing in mind that I had an iPad and a smartphone long before I did anything for the Seasons (and would still need them anyway), the financial outlay isn’t huge for a hobby that gives me loads of pleasure.
The biggest investment for me is time - time to learn a song, time to record it, time to add in the extra multitrack layers (only for those of us who choose to do this!), and time to put together the video and post it. And, of course, the initial time it takes to learn how to use the apps you use, which is often an ongoing process too.
If anybody has any questions about what I do and how I do it, please just ask - always happy to help if I can.
And please know that in spite of my relatively high-tech approach to all this, I appreciate all the music that you all bring to this special little corner of the internet immensely, however you choose to bring it!
:-)
