In 2005, approaching the advanced age of 29, headman Ben Gibbard of Death Cab for Cutie, began to contemplate aging, death, and his personal relationships. He put these thoughts into this breathtaking ballad "I Will Follow You Into the Dark", which happens to be a twofer this weekend.
It was recorded by Ben alone but attributed to the band, and later on became their signature hit.
(And no worries, not only did DCFC play Noise Pop in 1999, 2000, and 2002, before they made it really big, but Ben also played there solo a couple of times in more recent years. I would be very surprised indeed if he didn't play this very song at those performances.)
