Season 738 - Things With Wheels

Truckin'

(the slow version) Pop-o-pies

Cover of a cover by one of my fave punk bands of one of my fave dead songs (tells the story of a travelling poker player which I could very much relate to, although I liked it long before that) I hope having "truckin'" in sufficient as a thing with wheels since they are clearly traveling in a vehicle. But of course I will leave this up to the host. I now have an excuse to record it.

UkeCan1

Have we had a roller coaster yet? "Come Together", a twofer.

Another once popular spinning wheel song - "The Old Spinning Wheel" by Billy Hill was published in 1933. Already in 1935, the Bellacord Orchestra and singer Artur Rinne recorded their version in Estonian.

We've been really ill this last week with a cough that threatened to tear our chests out. It got so bad that for the first time in 38 years we have slept in separate bedrooms in the same flat! Because otherwise either Carmen's cough would keep me awake, or mine would keep her from sleeping. We were both getting so little sleep we were like ZOMBIES!

Another symptom was that I almost completely lost my singing voice (PANIC) - but in the last few days it has partly come back, just in time to set the lyrics I wrote earlier in the week to music!

Anyway, I hope you like my contribution to the week and I promise to try and listen to as many of the songs submitted to 738 as I can .

Drive My Car

Sorry it isn't a more interesting vehicle, but then now cars are the rare ones arent they?

UkeCan1

Monday twofer - Billy Joel's "Goodnight Saigon".

I think rotors, motors, and maybe cameras have wheels? The song opens and closes with the sound of the helicopter rotors.

I tried to get as close as possible to the original feel of the song.

jon

a last one from me, "richlands women blues" by John Hurt

"Casey Jones" – The Grateful Dead

Well this is rough but I worked on it too long. I actually had the uke part down pretty well when I wasnt singing. It is now 10 pm Hawaiian time so I am surrendering. Hey at least it isnt a car.

OnlyUkeThatMatters

First song mentioning things with wheels that leapt to my mind was the Clash's "Broadway"…

But everywhere I looked all over the city
They're runnin' in an' out of the bars
Someone stopped for a pick-up
Driving one of those cars

Y'see I always wanted - one of those cars
Long black 'n shiny an' - pull up to the bars
Honk your horn - put down your windows - push yer button,
An' hear it coming in

You can say
I can see the light...
Oh, I can see the light!
Roll! Forward! Drive! Green lights! Green lights!

Season 738 - Wrap

The "Things With Wheels" Season is now over. There were 54 songs from 23 Seasonistas. Thank you for your super songs!

The statistics are not very accurate, as it is difficult to categorize some "wheeled things", but the favorites were

🥇 Bicycles, nine million and four

🥈 Cars, twelve

🥉 just plain "wheels", seven

And honorable mentions in no particular order: train, wheel of Fortune, windmill, wagon, caisson, watch, clock, truck, roller skates, spinning wheel, rotor, motor, swivel chair, bus, Ferris wheel, lawn mower, scooter, riverboat, combine harvester, wheelbarrow and roller coaster.

Special thanks to

@Xamar25 and Mom for lovely duets and to @Xamar25 and @potmo for another fine family collaboration.
@joo and @jon for several awesome songs and videos, and for an inspiring field study on "wheelspotting".
@DelGriff who brought in one song the biggest number of wheels (18,000,000). But no joking, the quality of his rendition is even more impressive than the quantity.
@UkeCan1 who found a lot of good songs, mentioning some rare things with wheels.

Thank you, all Seasonistas for a fun Season! But how to stop looking for the wheels everywhere? Hmm, I guess together we can do it - Del's new Season 739 will help. 🙂
