This seasons topics relate to fools, foolish, fooled etc.
Season starts at midnight am Hawaiian time (8 am GMT) Sun, April 26 and and ends at mindnight am Mon, Hawaiian time.
This week's challenge:
- Any word either in the title or lyrics that has 'fool' in it, meaning fool, fools, fooled, foolish, fooling or any other word that has fool embeded in it that I can't think of
- songs about fooling or getting fooled
- songs about fools. Here, I am looking for songs about characters that are fools or who march to the beat of a different drummer. So Bo Jangles and Nowhere Man would be examples here. They need not be foolish so much as unique and interesting and the principle subject of the song.
- descriptions of a person or people as idiots, dunces, jesters, jokers etc.
- songs with either April or May in them. I will except names but you MAY not use the verb may. It must be capitalized. Same rule for April.
- April 29 special: Songs by or performed by Willie Nelson. Happy 93rd Willie. You can do all the aforementioned things but you can only do Willie on his birthday in your time zone.
- May 3 special: Songs by James Brown, Bing Crosby or Pete Seeger. Three legends with pretty much zero intersection of styles. Same date restriction as above.
For those who wish to have their memories refreshed or those who have yet to become official Seasonistas (one post to a season). The main guidelines for these things can be found here.
Additional context can be found in the thread sign up to host a future season here please
- Originals always welcome and they are exempt from any restrictions
- Collaborations are encouraged. No restrictions on topic for this either!
- First timers : Unlike most of my compadres, I am tough on first-timers in that I think they should stick to the topic and not do whatever they want. If you are actually new (which doesn't happen very often) and you really really want to play something atopical, state your case and I may grant you a pass.
- Multi-tracking : Your first or second post must be a single track. I love multi-tracking and have been meaning to play around with it, but I wind up just playing the uke. But here is the thing:
- Sometimes the multiple tracks takes away from the actual uke performance. People will overlook your awesome pickin' and strummin'.
- You also might start to feel dependent on the multi-track which will reduce your confidence in your actual uke play. What if you are deserted on an island with only a uke??
- DelGriff Special : You may post exactly one previous post(no need to redo)
- No limit on submissions but other than the one blast from the past rule above your song must be recorded during the season.
- Prizes : In the last season I hosted, I parlayed my prize money from Sabine and offered three prizes. Jim aka uke4ia turned down his prize. This means there is a whopping 15 dollars! I think most people like the idea of giving prizes to charity.
- I will up the prize fund by 50 cents per submission (not counting the one from a past season) up to 50 bucks.
- The winner of the "potmo's favorite song" award, awarded to my favorite song, shall choose the charity among those nominated.
- One charity nomination per post. You are allowed to name yourself if you want.
- since i am dictator for the season, I claim the special privilege of naming two charities to seed the pool if you will. Those are
- Amnesty international and
- Doctors Without Borders
Thornton Rule is in effect. Any explanation, lame or otherwise, as to why your song belongs on this season's playlist will almost certainly be accepted. I have yet to see anybody's post not make a season playlist, unless they posted it accidentally or later posted a different version of said song, with the intention of replacing it.
Most Important Rule Have Fun!!!!!
If you are reading this on Saturday or Sunday Hawaiian time, be sure to check out "SOTU 740 "The Elephant in the Room", hosted by the legendary @LimosineLil., who preemptively stole my planned topic, way back in season 481. I too was going to do work/ flowers/ SOS ... And don't forget twofer Sunday!
playlist goes here and in my signature, because i think it is a pain to scroll up to the original post and then down to find the playlist. Edit: Yes, Jim I know i can scroll to the original post and then when i go there scroll down to find the link to the playlist, or i can click one link right where I am at. I save a quarter of a second that way!
