This week, I want you to play songs that mention at least one real-world musician or band by name in the title or lyrics.
The name drop must specifically refer to a musician or band. “Like a Rolling Stone” does NOT count as a reference to the Rolling Stones, “Talk to the Animals” does NOT count as a reference to The Animals, etc. “American Pie” does NOT count because it doesn’t mention any of the musicians by name, but “Buddy Holly” by Weezer DOES count. If the first name is enough for us to understand in the context of the song who the musician is (e.g., Elvis), that's good enough. Here are some links that may or may not be useful:
47 Songs that name-drop classic artists
1000+ songs that mention other artists
If you're stuck, people who do comedy songs or parodies may be more likely to mention other musicians than most. For example, "Weird Al"s Another One Rides the Bus ("I haven't been in a crowd like this since I went to see The Who"). And there are always rap battles and diss tracks.
Rules:
• The video must be a new video recorded for this Season.
• The video must say that it is for the 759th Season of the Ukulele.
• Multitracking is okay, overdubs are okay. But I'm most interested in hearing you perform a song on the ukulele.
• Original songs are always welcome.
• Collaborations are always welcome.
• Collaborations on original songs? Hell, yeah!
• Videos must be posted to this thread. But not before midnight tonight, Hawaiian time. (And remember, Season 758 still has a day to go!)
• The Season lasts for 8 days, and ends at midnight Hawaiian time on Sunday night, September 6th.
• Anyone who has already posted at least one new video for this Season may post one Blast from the Past video of a name-dropping song from a previous Season.
PLAYLIST
I put an old video from Season 150 in the playlist in order to set the playlist up. The video is still here below, but I've taken it out of the playlist. This is The Smithereens' song "Behind the Wall of Sleep", which name-drops bassist Bill Wyman of The Rolling Stones.
