Thanks for hosting this Season and offering a folksy theme! My entry point into listening to a lot of folk music was Michelle Shocked in the late 80's. However, since we're not supposed to post any of her songs on Youtube I haven't gotten around to learning any on ukulele.
I can however offer a cover of my favourite Blue Rodeo track, which I would consider a folk song from a band that has folk moments. The Canadian Encyclopedia says "Beginning in clubs along their hometown's Queen Street, Blue Rodeo delivered a melodic blend of folk, rock and country marked by Beatle-esque harmonies." They have also played many folk fests over the years, so they're in the folk ball park

While they are not from our host's city, Blue Rodeo is from Ontario, and have this connection to Port Hope via the song Hasn't Hit Me Yet… "The band's frontman, Greg Keelor, wrote the famous track after taking a reflective walk around the Port Hope harbour, where he felt a deeply spiritual connection to the surrounding landscape and water. This walk inspired the track's most legendary line: "Out in the middle of Lake Ontario"."
The original version of "Love And Understanding" on Diamond Mine features sweet guitars going back and forth, so not the folkiest production, but I still listen to it regularly and have been meaning to learn it for a long time. This cover is folkier, just uke & voice.
