Greetings Seasonistas. This season we will be dealing with permanent or temporary motion. In other words, in honor of my upcoming move to Germany, we will celebrate/ commiserate the act of traveling or relocating.
Your mission: Sing songs about traveling or relocating. The song should describe a trip from point A to point B where said distance is greater than say 1 mile. In other words moving from the bedroom to the kitchen or just moving isn't enough. There needs to be the clear notion that a major permanent or temporary relocation is either underway, completed or planned.
Automatic qualifiers:
- Two separate locations are mentioned, meaning the names of a town, state, country etc and not bathroom/ house down the street.
- A unit of distance measurement e.g miles, which off the top of my head is probably the main such term. I am guessing 'kilometers' exists somewhere and "light years" is the only distance measurement I can think of but if you got one, bring it on!
- Any kind of descriptive term such as "travels" "trip" "journey" "voyage etc. provided that is how the term is used. So e.g "I tripped my balls off". would not count or "I tripped on that obstacle", but "what a long strange trip it's been" definitely counts.
Noobs and returning Seasonistas: Edwin's generally accepted authoritative source describing this thing we do called "Seasons of the Uke"
New users:
- Nearly always, the host, as a special offer, tells first timers that they need not stick to a topic. NOT ON MY WATCH! This is silly IMO, so I have this really super strict rule that if you think the idea of sticking to a seasonly theme is cool and would want to participate, then you might as well stick to the theme. I know this may seem like a huge impairment, but as it happens, 100% of all new members always make their debut performance honoring that seasons theme.
- I do ALWAYS accept all originals regardless of theme whether you are new or old provided it was recorded this season.
- No submissions before Saturday Sep 12 at 23:59 pm Hawaii time (UTC-10) or after the following Saturday at 23:59.
- If you are reading this today (Sat Sep 12) be sure to direct your creativity at our own folk hero @canadjim's currently running season 760 "The Folk Scare of the Sixties". Being a stickler to detail, I recognize that it may not be today anymore by the time you read this.
- You may post to EITHER group on Sunday Hawaiian time!
- On Sunday only, you may post the same song to BOTH seasons provideed it fits both seasons. We call this a "twofer".
- Make sure your folk submissions are polished, recorded, uploaded and posted to SOTU 760 before Sunday midnight!
Monday, September 14- Saturday, September 20, you are restricted to my season. Deal with it.
Sunday Sep 20 will be open to both this season and 762.
Also, a reminder to
- please mention SOTU 761 in your videos and/or in the details on YouTube.
- Please do explain in your SOTU post, how it fits this season. I will not adjudicate. The extent of your Thorntonian machinations is entirely up to you provided you give an explanation..
Allowed and/or encouraged:
Blast from the past: Flashback: (© @CanadaJim ) After your first submission, you may choose a hit recorded from an earlier season.
Of course you can always rerecord a song of the past as long as the recording was done during this season. You are also welcome to post a song that another seasonista already posted, though I understand the reluctance. For me it isn't so much fear of being shown up by someone else, as a desire to make the playlist as diverse as possible and to introduce new songs to the group, but if i practice something for way too long I'm going to post it.
UNLIMITED NUMBER OF POSTS as long as they are recorded during this season.
MOST IMPORTANT RULE: HAVE A BLAST!
As I am stressing out with short term furnished apartment in Berlin searches, I may not be able to grace the season with too many if any of my own submissions, so this may actually be a high quality SOTU playlist! I do pledge to listen to all songs, comment in YouTube and do all those other things that hosts do, but I do not promise timeliness.
Bon Voyage!
