UkeCan1 I feel like an arch villain for having wedged this runaway parade of pun-laced flip-flops in at the end of Season 761 when clearly it is custom-made to slide in right here.
jon one of my favourite songs from the Mountain Goats' 2008 album, Heretic Pride in your walking, keep your head low… "Marduk T-Shirt Men's Room Incident"
jon gorgeous song from Sarah Lee Guthrie's 2009 album, Go Wagaloo joojoo and me took a walk this morning along the Peppermint Trail track nearby where we live and just as we'd hoped to see, there was a flock of sheep grazing on the hill and lots of beautiful spring lambs! guess it's that time of year, baby season is in full force all around us; plover chicks, turbo chook chicks, the black swans are busy hatching too... big thanks to joojoo for taking this film! to skip all the sheep watching, the song runs from 30" - 2'55" "Don't I Fit in My Daddy's Shoes?"
LimousinLil And Bonjour/Good Morning/Afternoon, Evening & etc., wherever you might be. Big thanks to Jon and Jon for coming in overnight … my time. The sun is shining again today but there is a definite chill in the air - autumn is here - which makes Jon's film of spring lambs gambolling about in his "upside down" Antipodean world feel very strange. Just on my way to take the dog out for a WALK and hoping that, by leaving various doors cracked open, I will encourage senior cat Margot to come back from wherever she went yesterday afternoon, while we are out. (She is very wary of Merlin (the dog) and tends to skirt around him.) Oh, dear … the responsibilities of pet ownership! Anyway, please get those boots/shoes/flip-flops on and bring me some more delights! STOP PRESS: The cat came back (I know how worried you all must have been!) I think she must, literally, have spent the night on the tiles … or, at least, that's where I found her this morning.
YorkSteve Here's a Richard Thompson song for you Val, inspired, so he says, by the days when he used to go to see The Who at the Marquee Club in central London, and then walk back to his home, ten miles away.
dr_mitch Clearly this one had to be here this week. So here's my best Nancy Sinatra impersonation - I'm sure you'll agree, the resemblance is uncanny.
jon a 1938 song by the Great Irving Berlin on a uke older than the song itself! had lots of fun arranging this one and most of all, reacquainting myself with an incredible instrument that i'm very lucky to have and should play much more than i do "My Walking Stick"
LimousinLil Bonjour encore une fois, chers/cheres Seasonistas! And, thank you Jon for bringing in an Irving Berlin song on the most amazing uke. It's a most beautiful, warm, sunny day here and I have just returned from dog walking … or, to be more precise, I have returned, but the dog hasn't. I turned round for a moment to check out a blackberry bush and when I turned back he had vanished; obviously lured away by aliens armed with dog biscuits. I am now having a coffee and awaiting his return. Please keep those songs coming today.
UkeCan1 Dire Straits' "Brothers in Arms" album (along with chocolatey-covered raisins from the vending machine upstairs) got me through my masters thesis, on continuous loop all night long, alone in the computer room. Here's "Walk of Life"
Barbablanca Hi People, We were away at an Irish Fleadh (Music Festival) held in Caceres about a thousand KMs from us! So we took a couple of days to get there had a great four-day festival and then took a couple of days to come back. So I missed out on 761. This latest Berni composition was written this morning especially for Val's Shoe Extravaganza. It is inspired by my dear partner Carmen, who resembles the protagonist's wife!
lemon Hey again folks, hope you're all having a nice week! I just saw now that I got beaten to the song I recorded by @dr_mitch's excellent version, but I think it bears repeating!
CanadaJim TWO-TONE SHOES - Homer Haynes / Jethro Burns / Carl Perkins (Parody of Carl Perkins' "Blue Suede Shoes") Homer & Jethro - 1956
AlanDP Here's one from the back catalog. It took a lot of work and several listenings of the original to try and get the chorus harmony right.
uke4ia I hope I'm not stepping on Potmo's blue suede shoes by bringing this one, but here's my Blast from the Past. This is "(The Angels Wanna Wear My) Red Shoes" by Elvis Costello, from Season 199.
LimousinLil Bonjour, yet again, from La France Profonde, where the sun is still shining and I'm going out to lunch - yipee! - at a very rustic restaurant, where there are numerous courses and you eat whatever is put in front of you, the Chef can never identify half his cheeses, and, having dished up at least soup, entrée and a main course and the cheese, has run out of inspiration by dessert, which is usually fruit or an ice cream from the freezer. Oh, and the wine also flows freely! Big thanks to everyone who has contributed so far! We have now had two excellent versions of "These Boots Are Made For Walking". To be honest, it was the first song I thought of for the week, so, if - as in the good old days - anyone else feels like giving it a go, we could make it the song of the week. Meanwhile, 'tis only Thursday and I am sure that there are many more shoe/boot/foot related songs out there.
CanadaJim Slippers - Bernie Martin "You'd like to go out walking after midnight, But it's dark out there and cold; you'd best stay home."
DelGriff Thanks for hosting, Val! :-) Here's a fab Depeche Mode song from 1993 - the first I thought of when the theme was announced. It didn’t chart particularly well here in the UK (14), but did better in some other countries. Baritone uke with various synth and drum additions, and some vocal harmonies too. Walking In My Shoes - Depeche Mode cover (SOTU 762)
Aviva Walking After Midnight Thanks @CanadaJim for the idea. I'd been trying to decide what song to do but as soon as I saw your quote "You'd like to go out walking after midnight, But it's dark out there and cold; you'd best stay home." I knew I had to do this song!
