Hello everybody, and welcome to Season 763 - Del’s 60th Birthday Party Playlist.
On Monday 28th September 2026 it is my birthday. As you may already have cunningly guessed from the title, and despite appearances to the absolute contrary, I will be 60 years old! It hardly seems possible, does it? 🤔😆 So this week’s Season is all about me. Or should I say, even more about me than usual! 😆 Read on…
So, I need your help. Being the anti-social bastard that I am, in real life I won’t be having any kind of party to ‘celebrate’ the passing of another decade of my life. However, I will at least be throwing a virtual party here on SOTU, in the form of this Season. And you are all invited! My only stipulation is that you help me to form a playlist of music to constitute the perfect soundtrack for the event…
So, the challenge this week is simply for you to:
Choose, play and sing any songs that you know I would love to have on my 60th birthday party playlist. Anyone that has been here for any length of time will probably have a good idea of the kind of music I enjoy. But for relative newbies, and anyone who tries to ignore just about everything I say and do here 😆, I have listed below some helpful suggestions:
1. My favourite musical decade is the 1980s - you won’t go far wrong with anything written or recorded during that period. And even if you happen to choose something from the ‘80s that I don’t like, I will forgive you;
2. On my YouTube channel are over 700 songs that I have covered (or written), and almost all of them conform to my golden rule of only playing songs that I love. Have a look here for inspiration. Extra points to anyone that chooses to cover one of my original songs - playlist here (PM me for a chord/lyric sheet if needed);
3. Although it’s a party, I particularly love slow, sad love songs from any decade.
After your first entry, one, and only one, of your subsequent entries can be a re-post of an entry from a past Season that fits the theme.
All the usual rules apply - see Edwin’s marvellous FAQ here if you’re unaware of the details.
Original songs are particularly welcome, but please try to keep it relevant to the theme and write in a musical style you know I’ll particularly enjoy.
Multitracking and collaborations are also very welcome.
There is no song limit this week!
Don’t post until it’s Sunday 27th September in Hawaii, and don’t post after it‘s Sunday 4th October in Hawaii.
Most of all: HAVE FUN!
I will listen to every second of every entry and post a comment for every entry on YouTube. If I accidentally miss one, please let me know.
I will either send a prize to my favourite entry, or I’ll make a charity donation instead - details to follow later in the week.
Thank you all for everything you bring to every Season - I appreciate each and every one of you!
