Maggie and I played our first open mic at a folk club 39 years ago. This was before I started playing ukulele, and before I sang in public. We were both pretty nervous and as a result, I tend to play way too fast when I'm nervous (Maybe I just want to get it over with, I don't know.) When we came off stage Maggie said that she had trouble catching her breath.
I played banjo for one song and guitar for two; Maggie played guitar and sang.
When You And I Were Young - Johnson & Butterfield
You Are My Flower - Carter Family
Big Enough For Two - Lyn Hardy & Jay Unger
One of the organisers of the club is now a close friend and on my 80th birthday, he gave me a tape of our first performance. I think we may have clipped a couple of seconds off the world record for the first two songs.
Sorry 'bout the sound quality. This was recorded on my phone from a cheap cassette player. The newspaper clipping was at a later performance at the same folk club - FOLK AT THE FORUM in Cobourg, Ontario.
Here is the video with the pictures that Del was kind enough to add for us.
