Seasons open and seasons close. Empires rise and they fall.
First off, I'd like to apologise. I'm sorry if the theme didn't bring enough songs to mind to start practising and to submit your entries in the little gaps of time you have available for SOTU. I promise that I will pick something easier for a future Season.
We had 38 songs this week, with the name of Napoleon Bonaparte as the most frequently recurring or referred to.
Victoria made it onto the playlist twice, as did an empire of dirt (Hurt).
America as a modern empire was lauded by the Puerto Ricans in West Side Story, but it was also heavily criticised, especially by Ralf''s entry of Mason Jennings' song "United States Global Empire".
There were navigators, a few kings and queens and references to new clothes, a song from the reign of a Chinese emperor, songs from Boardwalk Empire, originals from Brian, Berni, Jon, Chris (CeeJay)
Rome also inspired you: Caesar, Nero, and Jon's The Road That Led to Rome.
Things I liked especially or which caught my ear/eye were Liz's jumper and the overdubs Brian added to his UkeFoote contribution. I have a hard time listening to Neil Young, but Brian makes it easy.
There were so many songs that were new to me this week. Of the 38, I'd heard 10 before. You're all such fine teachers and guides! Thank you so much for participating this week, either by sharing your contributions, clips from Life of Brian, jokes and or comments.
