( aka Guilty pleasures or redeeming the irredeemable).
Hello Seasonistas, and welcome to the Season. If you haven’t played in a season before let me say how great it is to have you here, whether you are participating or just a spectator, having a look in to see what all the fuss is about. If you don’t know what Seasons are, well basically it’s a week where we record videos of ourselves playing a song connected to the week’s theme, and then post them on this forum. Sometimes there are prizes, sometimes not.
There is an excellent and more in depth explanation here: https://seasonistaforum.flarum.cloud/d/16-what-are-the-seasons-of-the-ukulele-and-other-faqs-with-answers
Incidentally, for your first Season, you don’t have to follow the theme, you can just post whichever song you have recorded this week. It’s often quite daunting to post for the first time as a new Seasonista so you get a bit of leeway.
But if you do want to follow the theme, here it is. It has two parts.
Part 1), Love: Play the songs you hate to love, your guilty pleasures as it were, songs you kind of feel you shouldn’t like for whatever reason, but you do anyway. They might be a bit sentimental, or mawkish, or a bit rubbish in other ways. Guilty pleasures has been done before but not in recent years I think. It’s good to revisit an old theme now and then, there’s always more to say, or rather sing.
Part 2), Hate: Play the songs you love to hate. We all have songs we hate with a passion, well here is your chance to redeem that song somehow; for example, you could “punk” it up by playing it at breakneck speed, you could change a lyric you particularly despise, you could change it around any which way so that it barely resembles that song you hated so much in the first place. Feel free to experiment. Tell us why you hate it if you want, or don’t, it’s up to you. I’m particularly interested to see if people will run with this and play songs they hate, when generally speaking, we prefer to post songs we love!
It would help if you include in your description which category your song falls into, love or hate, just so we know.
Songwriters, your themes are guilt and/or redemption. Or try to write a song you hate or in a style/genre you hate, something sickeningly sentimental for example.
Wee Ginga Rob, if you are looking in, and I hope you are, you are free to raid your back catalogue for songs that match or come close(ish) to the theme.
So long as uke is front and centre, I’m ok with it. You can show your face on your video, but you don’t have to. Collabs are great. Big productions are great. Straight to phone is great too. It’s all great.
The Season starts as soon as the clock strikes midnight Hawaii time, on Sunday 26th Jan and finishes Hawaii time, on Sunday 2nd Feb at 23.59.
Song limit is 1 per day, so you can post 8 songs max. Songs should be newly recorded. Please comment on other people’s songs where you can. Most of all, have fun with it.
Don’t forget you can still go for gold with Ila as her Season has a day or so to go.
SOTU 676 Hate to love. Love to hate.
. I work all day Wednesdays and Sundays so you might find my input drops off on those days. Bear with me. There might even be a small prize. I haven’t decided yet.
