Blue Skirt Waltz - Mitchell Parish & Vaclav Blaha

The Chatterbox Café is the place where your coffee is never empty, the waitress always has a smile and The Blue Skirt Waltz is still on the juke box.

Mezcalero

Been a busy week, today I celebrated one of my students 90th birthday parties. There was lot's of playing, singing and dancing going on. In my early 60's I was the youngest person in the room 🙂 Here's a live take of Pearly Shells which mentions Twinkles in the Blue. There were a lot of twinkling eyes in the room today and much fun was had ~

CeeJay

A different take on a Neil Diamond song...... I have done this before, but it was ona four string and many moons ago .This is new for this season.

Bystander

Thanks for hosting Paul, busier week for me than I imagined so here's a short cover

of James Taylor's "You Can Close Your Eyes" which contains the word blues in the lyrics.

CAKEWALK INTO TOWN - Taj Mahal

This one is fun. I think I'll keep it in my repertoire. All blues don't have to be sad.

DelGriff

A little outside my comfort zone this one - it dates back to 1950 - but it’s a beautiful song, and was covered relatively recently by the very talented Lana Del Rey. So I guess you’d call this the Alarming Del Griff version! 🤔

Anyhoo - baritone uke with some added synth strings, homemade electronic drum track and doubled up vocals.

Blue Velvet - cover of a song by Lana Del Rey, Tony Bennett and others (SOTU 678)

“Now’s your moment…floating in the blue lagoon…” ☺️

I remember I did this one as my first submission to the seasons…I don’t remember which season it was but it was only half the song because my phone didn’t have enough space to record the whole thing. Haha. 😆 Good times.😊

johnpoole

Thanks Paul. One from John Mayall's 1967 "The Blues Alone". A favourite album of mine where he plays all the instruments. This is a minor blues. I'm tuned down a half step. "Broken Wings"

Barbablanca

Here is my "Blues / Boogie" I was going to add some electric ukulele lead solo to this, but I don't think I am going to have time (FAWM and a lecture I am preparing on Irish Poetry for St Patrick's Day are keeping me busy).

So, no ukulele present… GULP… I claim the Thornton rule! 😈

Hope you like: "What kind of Blues are theses?"

joo

I made these drawings with a brush pen and colour pencils. I played a baritone ukulele and sang. The song was written in 2015. It has gone through different versions of melody over the years. :--) Lyrics in the YouTube description.

LimousinLil

Hello again, Paul! A love song for Valentine's Day about a complicated relationship. (Apparently, the lady in question actually had hazel eyes … she was married and his first love.)

MikeM

More Canadian content here. Famous Blue Raincoat by Canada's poet laureate Leonard Cohen. If you're wondering, that's a baritone Lanikai with Guadalupe low octave gCEA strings

CeeJay

Hokum is apparently what this type of blues is called.

A song by Terry McLennan. I think it's a little risqué , but I could be wrong ?

elmann

Blue Bayou - I was triggered by Marlins wonderful voice and the bassline of him (great, is'nt it?)

I felt challenged, especially this simple, smooth but divine bassline from the Ronstadt version makes me melt. Sound'n voice? Could be better, recording too raw, but enough bass 🙂

bonesoup

Hello all, here is a little blue monday by new order.

Sinilind (The Blue Bird, 1940) by Raimond Valgre, in Estonian:

Thanks all! There’s been a lot to love in the last few days. @CanadaJim consistently delivers, and has musical tastes which hugely overlap with mine. I’m consistently impressed and to be honest a little intimidated by @DelGriff ’s multi-layered and textured videos. And I really loved @johnpoole ’s John Mayall cover, and @Barbablanca ’s electric three string boogie, even if it might have technically broken the main rule of the Seasons - but the Thornton rule wins, and I’m more interested in good music than purity.

I had planned a longer write-up, but last night my partner had to go to hospital. No big concerns - it’s more inconvenient than worrying - but my head is a bit of a mess, so please forgive me if I’m slow over the last few days of the season.

Anyway, I think the song list is now up to date.

From 1930. This one is totally new to me. I just worked it up today.

Okay, it's my season, so I wanted at least for one from me! Here's Hesitation Blues - which is a traditional song with versions first written down in 1915 (Billy Smythe, Scott Middlreyon, and Art Gilham) and 1916 (W.C. Handy).

It's more a jug band song than a blues song, and a bunch of people have written different verses. Here's my take on it.
