Season 681 - Song for Someone Else

Hello fellow Seasonistas,

Just going to say it - the past several weeks have been rough. But no matter how dark it gets, I think it always helps to inject a little kindness into the world and do something for someone else. So, with that in mind…

This weeks theme is to bring a song for someone else. You can play the favorite song of someone close to you, solicit requests from the crowd (here or at home), or, if you are feeling particularly shameless, play something for this week's host. (If you've been around a while or look at my YT channel I think you'll get a pretty good sense of what I like.)

For the song writers… Let the themes of kindness and generosity be your guide, OR given that you may be fresh off your annual writing jag for FAWM, you can consider any of those songs a request by me.

If you only just stumbled upon us, or maybe have been lurking for a while before dipping a toe… Please join in the fun, we'd love to have you. Please feel free to contribute anything you might be working on or already have in your back pocket. If you still aren't sure what this is all totally about, you can find more information in this handy Seasons FAQ thread.

The usual rules apply…

Season begins at the stroke of midnight, 2 March 2025 and ends at the same 10 March (making Sunday 9 March the last full day) Hawaii Time
Multi tracks and additional instruments are fine, as long as the ukulele is front and center
Collaborations are very welcome
One song per day per Seasonista (and I mean that in the strictest sense, not just an 8 song limit. While I appreciate everyone's enthusiasm, there are only so many hours in the day)
Songs must be freshly recorded for this Season on this forum, unless you are Rob and want to post a song from your back catalog
In keeping with the theme (and as a general rule really), please be kind in the comments on YT and here in the forum discussion thread for the season. I think constructive criticism is ok, but if in doubt, leave it out.

No prize this week, but, for no particular reason, for every song you bring I am going to donate a dollar to relief aid for Ukraine, up to $100.

Hello, Andy … and thanks for hosting! Weird times … half of me has been concentrating on learning this song today, whilst the other half has been listening to the BBC news as the fate of the World is decided at the European Summit Meeting. I was trying to think to whom I might dedicate a song, when Tom sent through a photo of my soon-to-arrive labrador puppy, Merlin … so this song is for him. (My brain isn't quite working this morning, but I think he will be getting on for five months old when Tom brings him over with his Mum and Grandma at the end of March … he was born on 9th November.) I have no idea whether it is wise to have another dog - especially a puppy - at my advanced age, but he was sort of forced on me (in the nicest possible way) and I have to admit that, whilst I have been very happy with just the cats, it HAS made me realise that, after many years of dog owning, there has been a dog-shaped hole in my life. Anyway, herewith …

I got a few for our host!

There is a brief description in the video about the Uncle Tupelo break up. So many of us liked Wilco, so many Son Volt. I have always been a Son Volt guy, Andy has always been a Wilco guy.

Wilco has made some damn good music.

Including a few made with Billy Bragg and a fellow named Woodie Guthrie.

Would do a song for Max, who is currently in kidney failure (terminal). He is only 7, and has been the healthiest dog ever until he wasn’t. Won’t make it through a song for him…if y’all would keep him in your thoughts we would appreciate it. We bow have had five dogs appear in the seasons, and there will be a sixth.

Thank you for your incredibly kind offer, Joo! Brian @UkeFoote has now volunteered to host the week following yours (thanks Brian), and I can’t help thinking that there are enough of us regularly participating in the Seasons that we should be able to spread the hosting load more evenly and fairly. And it would be good to consistently have at least a month (or ideally more) in advance filled with hosts, but if we are getting worryingly close to an empty week then maybe I could call on you to step in? How would that work for you?
