Season 682 - Second Track! Hidden Track!

joo

ok!

Best thumbnail goes to Wendy!

Best misleading thumbnail goes to Jim! (i thought you are gonna play the guitar and Al the banjo! haha.

I obviously needed to read your intro, Jim! I have now!

I have put everything to the playlist but have yet to comment from Wendy's onwards!

Nice to see a few songs here!

You all enjoying this?

Hope you do!

Feel free to exercise the Thornton rule!

Homemade albums are more than cool. I LOVE them!

I have in fact made a few too. Made one for my family several years ago. Mostly in Teochew and Chinese language. A couple in English. The first track is a sound sample of my dad yawning. A long yawn. The SECOND track is a cheerful tune. Things turn a bit sombre mid album and then a hopeful vibe towards the end. The last track is my dad's long yawn again. haha.

I called the album : Yawning Songs. Had so much fun doing that. I need to go and dig that up sometime…..

Oh, didn't you all just love the surprise when you heard a hidden track in an album?

Like Dave, that was LONG time ago when i consumed or enjoyed music that way. These days I mostly listen to music on YT! gawd.

I am rambling.

Later!

EDIT: I have watched and enjoyed and commented on everything now! Thank you so much everyone! I really hope you all have some fun digging up old albums and looking for songs to play! Digital albums are cool too! Homemade albums even better! Oh and I hope someone can bring some ghost tracks, or hidden tracks! Also looking forward to originals! Yep! OK bye for now! I will be back again soon to see what's happening in this corner of the internet soon!

EDIT #2: HOW DO I UPLOAD IMAGES? I have tried several times but failed.

Prize for this week's winner-

a home made paper puppet of ……YOU!

I can't upload photos so I am sharing an example of the thing I am talking about.

Now, don't underestimate this humble piece of craft. It will come in handy when you have a bad day and you don't wanna show your face in your videos! You can just use the paper puppet version of you for your video!

That CD cover was taken before I owned my first ukulele Joo. On the CD, I play guitar and Al plays Dobro for that song.

Hope this one passes your second track test Joo. Still a favourite album of mine, 47 years later.

I love this photo, also the one of you and Al with the banjo.

I was being silly with the "misleading photo" thing of course. Although i did think you had decided to play the guitar and i actually could not wait to hear some banjo. :--)

A letter to John the South-

Hope all is well John? Are you putting up a painting show?

Last week, when Andy announced his theme, i thought to learn Mona Lisa for you. Because we both paint a lot, you more than me i am afraid. Though i am going full time into that after this week.

It seems that the Seasons has quietened down quite a bit lately. No puns around when you are not here throwing that with John the North. (And Chris!)

I mean, what fun is sharing music if we don't have friends to also joke around while listening to each other play like we are some music hero performing in our own home?

Mona Lisa did not happen but now that i have mentioned i better go learn it and record it before my paintings start to consume me.

Hm. It is 4AM here and i should go back to bed.

(End of letter!)

Everyone, keep the songs coming!!!

When my brother and I were learning to play guitar in the late fifties/early sixties, it seemed like the only strings you could get were Black Diamonds. You could buy them as single strings and that's mostly how we bought 'em. If one broke, we'd head down to the local music store and pick up whatever one had broken. On our birthday or at Christmas we'd get a whole set of Black Diamonds, but that was the only time we played with brand new strings.
In the early 2000s I played mandolin in a bluegrass group, named after a tractor - McCormick. In 2003, we cut a CD and the second cut was a song by Larry Cordle and Larry Shell called Black Diamond Strings.
Before I'd heard that version, I heard an entirely different song called Black Diamond Strings written by Guy Clark. This song mentioned Rodney Crowell, who was 9 years old at the time, and his mom, Cauzette, and dad J.W. This song was the second cut on Guy's Dublin Blues album.
Norman Blake, one of my guitar gurus, had a song called Church Street Blues that also mentioned Black Diamond strings, but it was cut #11, so I only sang the verse that mentions the strings.

Hi JooJoo,

Thanks for hosting such a wonderful theme Joo. it's among my first recordings for the Seasons! Here's an old I recorded. It has all kinds of overtones and there's even a weedeater in there if you listen you can probably find it 🙂 Despite it's imperfections as a recording, the vibe was something I still dig to this day! "Streets of Philadelphia"

Here's a new one. "Galway Girl" written by Steve Earle, but covered by many other artists. It is the second track on Johnny Logan's ~ The Irish Connection 2 Joined here by my bandmates. Cara on fiddle, Bob on double neck 8string Mel on his new Martin - 000-28. Such a great evening of music!

Exclusive to SOTU, no combining my entry with entries into other younger, sexier ukulele groups. I'm still doing the 100daysUke2025 thing, but nothing will ever replace the Seasons.

Thanks for letting us know, John!

Hope you get well soon!

Here is the song i wanted to play for you last week, but i didn't get to learn it properly.

I found out that it is track 2 of an Andy Williams album!

joo

Apologies for being absent for a day.

I wasn't in a good head space to do my host duties properly.

I am back now!

Thanks for the songs!

I have yet to comment from Jon's onwards, but all songs, including Kev's old video of his best song, have been added to the playlist. (Yes I want to put your best songs in the playlist too, even though they are old recordings).

Please don't forget to share your best song here too, if you like!

Keep the songs coming!

I will be back in a few hours!

joo

OLD video sharing time!

Here's probably not my best but it is a song i love a lot!

(Where is everyone?)
