Season 711 - Half a century away

So Brian found the time to repeat his recent 40 song medley from 1975, and I found the time to listen to it. Does he ever make a mistake? Apparently not.

50 years ago today The Who released "The Who By Numbers". Pete Townsend said he had been suffering from writers block, and felt too old to play rock n roll after his 30th birthday. Fifty years later, if reports are to be believed, they may have played their final gig in California a couple of nights ago.

But the Seasons continue…

Bystander So it's not just me! And good idea to limit YouTube time … I should probably do the same. I find I am becoming increasingly depressed with the nightmare this World has become since January - well, obviously WAY before January - but, since January, everything has become amplified a hundredfold! But, let us not get "political"! Oops … sorry, Steve; and yes, thank heavens the Seasons continues!!! To cheer myself up, I hope to do another song today.

And here I am back! Sorry about the rant, Steve! To be honest, I have been so focused on things political recently that it has been difficult to bring my mind back to the gentle delight that is The Seasons. I AM profoundly depressed about the current situation, which is why I haven't been around all that much recently … my apologies to one and all! Anyway, to prove that there is still life in the old girl, I bring you this … a song which I've always associated with The Beatles, rather than The Marvelettes or The Carpenters, for whom it was a hit in 1975 ….

Here’s another from Paul McCartney & Wings 1975 album Venus and Mars. Initially I intended to do Listen To What The Man Said because it’s such a great song, but instead I went for one of Paul’s Music Hall style throwback songs. I did do it in that style at first then tried it a completely different way which, to my ears at least, makes me this sound what it might have sounded like if George Harrison had covered it. Anyway, thanks for hosting Steve, and here’s You Gave Me The Answer.

@LimousinLil , I know where you are coming from, the world seems to be getting more and more crazy, more and more hateful and intolerant. I tend to avoid political stuff on YT these days… it’s so polarised with no healthy debate, no acceptance of nuance, blatant lies disseminated with no push back, it would make me ill if I got too caught up in it. I know what is real, and I know there are still good people in the world and we will prevail eventually, whether that’s in this lifetime I dunno. All we can do is live our lives and be kind and tolerant to others.

YorkSteve Ok putting aside The Who's storeid career for a while, I saw them in 1984 when it was supposed to be a "Farewell Tour". I am pretty sure that the Who holds the world's records for most farewell tours.

Steve, at the risk of being pedantic, I'm still getting that problem when clicking on the YouTube link … and if Graham has noticed it as well, I can't be alone. (All that happens when you/one/I click on the thread on this page is that you end up on YouTube). I've been going straight to the Playlist and that means it's impossible to leave a comment under a song 'till you've added it to said list. If there IS a problem developing with the link is there a technical bod who can sort it out?

What an awesome job!

Most of these songs inspired me to be a punk rocker (great renditions though and just short enough to be tolerable (not your fault you can only work with what you have)
Nice circumvention of the four song rule!
Ktel T-shirt is an awesome touch!
I guess when you blend all the songs together, YT's AI misses all the copyright stuff. No way all 43 songs don't have some kind of "only on youtube" rule.
Why did you have to do Tangled up in Blue of all the Dylan songs? I have been practicing that all week. Still gonna do it heck with it.

I haven’t listened to Brian’s medley yet. I’d be a little surprised if this (or something else from the same album) wasn’t there…

Here’s a song I’ve always loved from 1975. The lyrics so cleverly and beautifully contradict themselves at every turn. Somebody here is very much in denial of their true feelings. The song very nearly never even made it into the recording studio - worth reading the Wikipedia entry of the whole story behind its history. In the process I also learned how the band, 10cc, acquired their name! 🤭

(Un-fun fact: the residents of Cucamunga, California, decided that the unique appeal of their town's name was actually having a negative overall effect on their property values. So, they changed it to the more urbane "Rancho Cucamunga", boooo!)

Blood on the tracks is probably my favorite Dylan album. He was kind enough to release this masterpiece in January of 1975 (although I seem to remember that he actually had finished recording and then went to MInnesota and redid everything…
There was a time people used to tell me I lookied like "a young Bob Dylan"

Here is a song from Robert Wyatt's 1975 album - Ruth Is Stranger Than Richard.

I have no idea what chords Mr. Wyatt's original are, I tried to make it sound a bit like his strange and fabulous original.

You can hear a sopranino uke and my voice, and what you see is a simple stop motion animation to go along with my 39-second-long cover.

LimousinLil Maybe we can try to narrow down the problem. What machine/software/browser are you using? Just for comparison, I am on a PC, Windows 8, Chrome, and don't have a problem - I can click on the video and play it, or click on the title and go through to YouTube.

Well, that was a good bunch of songs which came in when I wasn't looking & overnight. Keep 'em coming!

Meanwhile Val & Graham have reported problems playing videos on here - Error 153 or similar. Anybody else? Anybody got any idea what might be causing it?

YorkSteve I'm using an Acer Chromebook … so, no Windows. This has only been a problem in the last couple of days; before then everything was working perfectly.

A newish HP pc. Windows 11 and Microsoft Edge.

Funnily enough I just clicked on about a dozen videos and, apart from one which said the video was unavailable, they all played on this thread !
