Season 671 - The Gift Of A Song

Threebird

Thanks for hosting and for this week's theme! In exchange for your gift I will leave this regifted song right here. Not only do I really enjoy playing it, but I also like the band name - Skinny Dyck & the Chicken Catchers (the song is Dreamin'). I also tried to show what I was playing at the beginning in case anyone wants to learn it.

Singing In the Bathtub - *Michael H. Cleary, Herb Magidson, Ned Washington (1929)
*
This one's a lotta fun to play.
I learned it from The Cheap Suit Serenaders, but it has made an appearance in many Saturday morning cartoons.

Here's one for Maggie, my darlin' lovely wife.
In 1981, we were buddies and co-workers, but not romantically involved. We drove to work in a car pool and one morning Maggie came into my house to get me and I didn't hear her because I was playing the guitar and singing. She had heard me play, but never heard me sing before. The song I was singing was Paul Siebel's LOUISE. I won her heart with a song about a dead hooker.

My family gathered today for Christmas Eve in California. I joined them for part of it by FaceTime, and they shared some pics of their amazing meal and some videos.

I invited them to make song gift requests, and they are working on it.

In the meantime, this seemed like a perfect song to send them for today.

"I'll Be Home for Christmas"

(I won't, but I did the next best thing.)

DelGriff

Happy Christmas everyone!

Bonus points for anyone who brings a song today! :-)

*Trying to work out time differences, but I think Wendy may have already achieved this. Who’s going to follow suit?

Thanks to all who’ve submitted songs so far - a musical gift, each and every one! Please let me know if I’ve accidentally missed anyone off the playlist or not commented?

Hoping there’ll be some time in the post Christmas lull for others to join in - I’m ready and waiting! :-)

LimousinLil

DelGriff Hoping to be able to do something before the end of the week, Del! (My "post Christmas lull" consists of catching a flight back to France tomorrow morning at an ungodly hour - 5.00 a.m.!) It's been a very short visit to "The Mother Country", but worth it … not least because I spent Christmas Day learning how to play poker.

I am hoping to record something tomorrow during my sons nap. Knock on wood.

In 2006, my little sister Sharon, was living in Calgary and her brothers went out to celebrate her birthday. Siting in her living room, we decided to figure out the chords to Paper Moon and this is what we came up with. I'm sending this one out to Sharon, who now lives in Stratford, Ontario.

Thanks for hosting Del! Love the theme! Kimi joins me on an old favorite of my mine!

Kimi

Here's a Kimi & Kev cover on the day after Christmas.

Trying out some alternative software for video making.

Thanks for the wide open theme, Del. This is one I just didn't know if I would ever get a chance to post in a Season. It is also the song that, indirectly, led me to stop doing the Seasons for a few years. After participating for probably 4 years non-stop, I was getting a little worn out. I always tried to get a song posted by Monday or Tuesday, so it could get more views. This meant I had to decide and figure out a song in essentially 1 day. I figured I had mastered that particular skill as much as I needed to, and I wanted to go further with my playing and singing.

I wanted to work out arrangements that took a while, and this was the first song I picked to try that on. I have loved this song since I heard a 4 piece rock band do it probably 40 years ago and always wanted to play it, but wanted to do it justice. I spent over a week just working out the first phrase of the intro, and several more polishing up the rest. But I think it sounds pretty good.

So here you go. A great song (one of many) by the Rascals.

TCK

One I love to play- hopefully I can get in another soon…had to get comfy with the new uke.

This is obvious for me. I love songs from the 1920s. This is my favourite, and it is one I play every morning before I get out of bed.

I'm looking after my dad and sister this week. Our tiny house has been taken over. Cooking, cleaning, and later today driving them home, via making them a Sunday roast tomorrow at dad's house. I am knackered - it's hard making everything run smoothly for them. We are having our own special two person Christmas in a holiday cottage after new year's. Still, I love him, even though he drives me mental.

He wears a dressing gown all the time these days, so I put one on as an homage. You'd never tell we were related, would you?

UkingViking

My first entry this week - and my first on the new forum :-)

Picking any song that I like to play, I will pick a song Iike to play when practicing clawhammer.

UkingViking

My second son this week.

This one is for my wife, who kind of like this song. Or at least like that I wrote a song about the two of us.

I wrote it back for season 250, and have re-recorded it once before. But not on my current channel.

I have also been practicing a fingerstyle version of a lullaby my son likes, but it is not quite there yet. When I got to it, my fingers were to cold to do more than a few takes outside. We will see if I manage to get it done or it will go back on the shelf.

Bystander

Thanks for hosting Del, home for a couple of days before travelling again for New Year.

One of my all time favourite songs and I still like playing it almost 9 years since my first attempt at it.

I'm following in Joko's footsteps, Let It Be by the Beatles.
